Wiltshire in Pictures: Bank holiday fun

  • Published

There has been an abundance of activities in Wiltshire as the summer holidays are still in full swing - but there was also a brief return to school for teenagers picking up GCSE results.

Across this weekend there has been plenty going on, including an open day at Salisbury fire station, and Swindon have enjoyed success on the football pitch.

There was a very special concert at Salisbury Cathedral, and a long-standing charity volunteer celebrated a magical milestone.

Pipe dreams: The Organ Prom at Salisbury Cathedral, played by John Challenger and David Halls, included music from films such as Star Wars and Dam Busters, but also popular classics such as Scott Joplin's The Entertainer, Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee, Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings and Giacomo Puccini's Nessun Dorma.

Up and running: Swindon Town recorded their first away win of the season last weekend, winning 2-1 at Oldham Athletic, and then got a last-minute winner against Shrewsbury at home on Saturday.

A star milestone: a long-serving volunteer for Stars Appeal, the Salisbury District Hospital charity, has celebrated her 100th birthday. Sybil Tucker has been supporting it for more 20 years and still volunteers in the bookshop with her daughter Nicola. They have raised over £65,350 for the Stars Appeal so far.

Swindon summer: A month-long freefestival of activities in the town centre is finishing over the bank holiday weekend. Activities have so far included a pop-up cinema, pop-up skate park, circus workshops, bubble magic and a pop-up planetarium. 25 August will have musical performances too and the hunt to find Swindon's next town crier.

All aboard: thousands piled onto vintage and new buses - many London routemasters - for Imberbus day. The annual event raises money for charity as the buses take people to the 'ghost' village of Imber, whose residents were evicted in World War Two.
