A fifth arrest has been made in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Walsall last month.

The 19-year-old man, from Walsall, has been detained on suspicion of murdering, Connor Brookes, in Blakenall.

Mr Brookes, 20, was shot on Well Lane just before 17:00 BST on Monday 8 July.

Of the five arrested, two - Jake Sanbrook, 22, from Bloxwich and 20-year-old Byron Sellick, of Walsall - have been charged with his murder, as well as attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Two teenagers, aged 17 and 18, have been released on bail, the conditions of which including staying out of Walsall as inquiries continue, West Midlands Police (WMP) confirmed.

Mr Sanbrook and Mr Sellick, who appeared on separate dates in July at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court, are both due to appear at the city's crown court on 27 August, when they are both expected to enter a plea.

The fifth suspect detained is also being held on suspicion of attempted murder, and possession of items to endanger life, and remains in custody, WMP said.

Police said Mr Brookes’ family were being kept informed of developments.
