The social experiment that went wrong
In 1951, the Danish government removed 22 Inuit children from their families in Greenland and took them to Denmark.
The plan was to immerse them in Danish culture and teach them the Danish language so they could grow up to form a new elite and take leading roles in Greenland's society.
One of the children was Helene Thiesen - she spoke to Witness about the social experiment and how it damaged her life.
Witness is a World Service radio programme of the stories of our times told by the people who were there.
