Politicians 'commiserated Rebekah Brooks' when she quit NI

Rebekah Brooks, the former chief executive of News International, has been giving evidence at the Leveson Inquiry into press ethics.

Mrs Brooks resigned last year after the phone-hacking scandal led to the closure of the News of the World.

She was arrested on 17 July 2011 over phone-hacking and corruption allegations.

Mrs Brooks has denied any knowledge of phone hacking on her watch.

At the beginning of her evidence, she confirmed she had received some indirect messages of commiserations from politicians in July 2011.
