Bryant on immigration: 'Go home' vans a gimmick

Shadow minister Chris Bryant has attacked the government's immigration policy, accusing ministers of using "cheap and nasty gimmicks".

In a speech on Monday, Mr Bryant also said that Labour supported measures "to tackle low-skilled immigration and remove foreign criminals" but that the government's recent moves had "left a nasty taste in the mouth".

It emerged last week that a campaign which saw vans drive through London calling on illegal immigrants to leave is to be investigated by the advertising watchdog.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said it had started an inquiry into the Home Office's "go home or face arrest" vans after dozens of complaints.
