Pavlo Lapshyn: Student sentenced to life for murder of Mohammed Saleem

A Ukrainian student has been jailed for at least 40 years for the murder of an 82-year-old man and planning explosions near three mosques in a series of racist attacks.

Pavlo Lapshyn stabbed Mohammed Saleem in Small Heath, Birmingham, on 29 April, five days after he had arrived in the UK.

Lapshyn, 25, admitted murder on Monday, as well as plotting to cause explosions near mosques in Walsall, Tipton and Wolverhampton in June and July.

Jeremy Cooke reports.
