Theresa May: 'Women should be free to wear veils'

Home Secretary Theresa May has said that women should be free to wear what they wish and that the "government should (not) tell people what to wear".

A judge ruled on Monday that a defendant in a trial, had to remove her face-veil, also known as the niqab - to give evidence during her trail.

A Lib Dem Home Office minister, Jeremy Browne has since called for a debate on girls wearing face-veils in some public places.

The home secretary was visiting the Kanzul Iman Central Jamia Mosque in Tipton which was hit by an "act of terrorism" in July.
