A&E closure plans 'about saving money, not lives' - Andy Burnham

Government plans for changes to A&E services in some English hospitals are "primarily about saving money - not saving lives", the shadow health secretary has claimed.

Andy Burnham challenged the health secretary, Jeremy Hunt, on his announcement that A&E departments at Ealing and Charing Cross Hospitals would remain open - "even if it is in a different shape or size to that currently offered."

The announcement comes one day after the Court of Appeal ruled that Mr Hunt did not have power to implement cuts at Lewisham Hospital in south-east London.
