Sudan rappers fight to keep music alive
After years of tight restrictions on music, western-style pop and hip-hop is again on the airwaves in northern Sudan.
When Islamists took power in a coup 20 years ago, their vision of morality excluded much music. But these days concerts are making a comeback in the capital Khartoum.
The music scene has slowly re-emerged after the peace agreement between the Arab-dominated, Muslim north and the African south which follows Christianity and traditional religions.
But the possibility of the country splitting in two in the coming referendum on southern independence could lead to another clampdown.
Khartoum hip-hop group ReZOULution spoke to James Copnall about the importance of keeping their artistic freedom.
