Typhoon Haiyan: 'We are on our knees here', says Tacloban mayor

The mayor of the typhoon-hit Philippines city of Tacloban has defended the local response to the disaster, following criticism from the country's president.

President Benigno Aquino, whose own government has been criticised for its response, questioned why certain areas had suffered significantly worse than others from the effects of Typhoon Haiyan.

Tacloban Mayor Alfredo Romualdez told the BBC's Rico Hizon that those providing assistance were "victims too", and that the city was "on its knees".
