Malloch Brown: Assad believes West wont respond to alleged attacks

Lord Malloch Brown suggests that the alleged chemical attack which killed hundreds of people was President Assad's attempt to expose the hollow threats of the west.

Speaking to the BBC, Malloch Brown said that Assad feels he could "show his strength" because the UN "wont do anything about it".

UN officials say the attacks which Syria's opposition claim killed hundreds near Damascus were a "serious escalation".

The Security Council also said that clarity was needed over the attacks.
