Obama urges Congress to support action on Syria
President Obama has urged members of the US Congress to support military action against the Syrian government.
He has recently arrived back to Washington from the G20 summit in Russia where he failed to win fresh diplomatic support for military intervention.
But speaking in his weekly address, he said: "We cannot turn a blind eye to images like the ones we have seen out of Syria. Failing to respond to this outrageous attack would increase the risk that chemical weapons could be used again."
