Iraq crisis: Kurds say they need modern weapons to beat IS
Kurdish forces say they need more modern weapons in order to tackle Islamic State militants in Iraq.
A joint operation involving both the Kurds and US air strikes has been under way since 05:00 local time (03:00 GMT), in a bid to retake the strategic Mosul dam from the jihadist group.
But soldiers on the ground have told the BBC's Jim Muir they would feel "more confident" if they were better equipped to take on IS weaponry.
