Iraq crisis: Disabled refugee boy 'abandoned in desert'
In Iraq, Kurdish fighters say they have retaken a dam near the city of Mosul, captured by Islamic State extremists earlier this month.
US warplanes and drones were also involved in the operation.
Meanwhile international humanitarian efforts are continuing, to help tens of thousands of people from the Yazidi minority who have been forced from their homes by the extremists.
The BBC's Paul Wood has travelled through northern Syria and northern Iraq and has met with civilians who have had their lives destroyed by the crisis.
