    Ms Doyle-Price won 16,692 votes, while Ms Billington got 16,156 votes.

    UKIP which targeted the seat were beaten into third place. UKIP candidate MEP Tim Aker received 15,718 votes.

    Lib Dem Rhodri Jameson-Ball received 644 votes.

    Conservative candidate Jackie Doyle-Price fought off a challenge from UKIP and Labour to hold the three-way marginal seat of Thurrock.

    The seat had been targeted by UKIP, but the party's candidate Tim Aker failed to make the breakthrough needed.

    He defected from the Conservatives last year - and then won a by-election.

    This time Mr Carswell had 19,642 votes (compared to 21,113 in 2014), beating Conservative candidate, former Bread actor Giles Watling, into second place again.
