Paul Holmes has said being elected as MP for Eastleigh was "the honour of my life" after being elected, only six weeks after becoming the Conservative candidate when former MP Mimms Davis decided not to stand.
“The national message has been strong and Eastleigh people have responded to that message.

Paul Holmes has been elected MP for Eastleigh, meaning that the Conservative Party holds the seat with an increased majority.
The new MP beat Liberal Democrat Lynda Murphy by 15,607 votes. This was more than Mims Davies’s 14,179 vote majority in the 2017 general election.
Sam Jordan of the Labour Party came third and the Green Party's Ron Meldrum came fourth.
Voter turnout was down by 0.2 percentage points since the last general election.
Nearly 59,000 people, 70.3% of those eligible to vote, went to polling stations across the area on Thursday, in the first December general election since 1923.
