  2. Stephen Morgan increases majority in pro-Remain Portsmouth Southpublished at 03:26 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2019

    BBC Radio Solent reporter

Portsmouth South MP Stephen Morgan has gone against the national tide by holding Portsmouth South for Labour.

He increased his majority to over 6,000, beating Conservative Donna Jones into second place.

Despite Labour's national despondency, the party here has been quietly confident. Its a very different constituency to the ones in the Midlands and north that the party have been losing. It's a constituency with a lot of students and public sector workers so there is a bedrock of support.

And it's very much seen as a Remain area - Stephen Morgan himself believes the UK's interests are best served in the EU, so drew support for that.

  3. Labour needs to take 'long, hard look at itself'published at 03:23 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2019

    Michael Race
    BBC South

Anneliese Dodds has said Labour will need to take a "long, hard look at itself" following the general election.

The re-elected Oxford East MP said the election was "very divisive, with groups of people pitted against each other".

She said it wouldn't be "helpful being angry" at the party's leadership and added it would be Labour's membership to decide what happens.

That "internal self-criticism" should not go on for "too long" before it decided how to proceed, she said.

She said the Conservatives appeared to have secured support for its Brexit plan, but added if re-elected she would continue to fight for areas that could be affected by Brexit in Oxford such as the Mini car plant.

Ms Dodds said it was a "incredible honour" to be represent her home constituency.
