Big Short director Adam McKay, who won best screenplay with Charles Randolph, praised Chris Rock’s opening monologue.

“I thought it was great. It was jabbing at Hollywood but also dealing with an era of how we deal with diversity – and it was really funny."

I share this with our fabulous crew and cast. Eddie [Redmayne], thank you for being the best acting partner, I could never have done it without you, you raised my game. To my parents - thank you for giving me the belief anything can happen, even though I never would have believed this.

  6. Your views: Oscar nominationspublished at 02:02 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2016

I think Eddie Redmayne should win, if The Oscars is about acting. If there’s one award called “Severe Hardship Award” then I think that should go to Leo.

We’re after acting, the techniques to bring a character alive, and Eddie Redmayne has once again, done that in The Danish Girl.

Leo’s role is almost all about pain and struggling and suffering, and most of the time his face is screwed up and ½ hidden behind the pelt, so we can easily tell he’s under extreme harsh weather and gone through much agony….and that’s it.  Acting? Guess Eddie’s much more intense in The Danish Girls.

If Leo gets it this year, I think it’s got to do with "sympathy" to soothe his unsuccessful attempt over the last 5 years.

I hope Leo will be getting an Oscar tonight, but I hope the announcement doesn’t happen after midnight, at least so he can celebrate it every year rather than every four years. #leapyear #oscarforleo

They said you can't just ask women what dress they're wearing. They ask the men more because men are always wearing the same thing. If George Clooney wore a turquoise suit with a swan coming out of his ass, people would saying 'What are you wearing?'

This is the world's craziest Oscars because of all this controversy because of no black nominees. People keep telling me 'Chris you should quit' - how come it's always unemployed people telling me to quit? So I thought about it really hard, but I thought they're going to hold it anyway and the last thing I need is to lose another job to Kevin Hart.

If you want black nominees every year, you need black categories, like best black friend... 'and the winner for the 18th year in a row is Wanda Sykes'.

There weren’t black nominees in the '60s – why didn’t we protest then? Because we had more important things to protest about.

I counted at least 15 people in that montage - I'm here at the Academy Awards - otherwise known as the white People's Choice Awards. If they nominated the host, I wouldn't get this job. You'd all be watching Neil Patrick Harris now.

Some clever number crunchers have mapped where all the acting category winners and nominees were born - all 1,332 of them since 1929.

Unsurprisingly, the US has spawned the most nominees and winners at 1,116, but the UK comes second with 287.
