There are always millions of dollars worth of diamonds on the red carpet on Oscars night.
Jewellery designers are keen to have celebrities wear their creations and vie to have them seen - especially by the nominees.
Take a look at some of the sparkles that have graced red carpets in the past.
Of course, there is a flip side to all of tonight's celebration and award giving.
Protesters complaining about the lack of diversity at this year's Academy Awards have been chanting "show me what diversity looks like" outside the venue.
Veteran US civil rights campaigner Rev Al Sharpton is among them and has addressed the demonstrators.

Before we get on the with the red carpet preparations and emotional speeches, let's just remind ourselves of the lucky nominees.
The picture with the most nominations is The Revenant with 12, with Mad Max: Fury Road scoring 10.
Both films are nominated for best picture, along with The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, Brooklyn, The Martian, Room and Spotlight.
