  5. The biggest fiasco in Oscars history?published at 05:23 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2017

    Ian Youngs
Entertainment and Arts Reporter, BBC News

    Wow.

    What just happened?

Well, we know what just happened. They read out the wrong best picture winner.

Now I haven't been following the Oscars for all 89 years but I've never heard of anything like that happening before.

After Warren Beatty initially announced La La Land, two people came on stage - Brian Cullinan and Martha Ruiz from accountancy firm PwC.

They are the people who count the votes and the only people who knew the correct result, and so that there had been a mistake.

Here's an interview I did with Martha Ruiz in advance - in which she explains how the process should have worked. , external

  6. Well... that was unusualpublished at 05:20 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2017

...Not sure about you, but we're a bit speechless, on two levels:

First, that Moonlight beat La La Land.

And secondly, that the wrong best picture winner was announced. Has that ever happened at the Oscars before?!

  7. Warren Beatty explains the mistakepublished at 05:15 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2017

It looks like the actor was given the wrong envelope by mistake.

    Quote Message

I opened the envelope and it said Emma Stone, La La Land - that’s why I took such a long look at you and Faye [Dunaway] I wasn’t trying to be funny.

"I knew I would screw this up, I really did," jokes Jimmy Kimmel after Barry Jenkins concludes his speech.

  8. Hold the front page!published at 05:12 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2017

Moonlight has actually won best picture - Warren Beatty read out the wrong winner.

  10. Emma Stone: The greatest honourpublished at 04:57 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2017

"It has been the greatest honour to stand alongside you," says Emma Stone to her fellow nominees as she accepts the award.

    Quote Message

To the women in this category – you were all so extraordinary and I look up to you and admire you. It has been the greatest honour to stand alongside you. I realise a moment like this is a huge confluence of luck and opportunity so I want to thank Damien Chazelle to be given the opportunity. Ryan Gosling, thank you for making me laugh and always raising the bar and being the best partner on this crazy adventure.

    Quote Message

To all the people that worked on this movie, I’m going to find you all individually and I’m going to thank you. I’m going to hug the hell out of you when the feeling re-enters my body. I still have a lot of growing and learning to do, and this guy (the Oscar statue) is a really beautiful symbol of continuing to do that.

It means so much to me thank you. One of the first people who taught me how to act was Denzel Washington and I just met him for the first time tonight. I’m only here because of all the talent and goodwill of so many people impossible to name. Man, I wish I had something and more meaningful to say, but I’m really honoured to be part of this movie.

  13. Coming up nextpublished at 04:45 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2017

It's the award for best actor next - which sees Casey Affleck go up against Denzel Washington.

  14. Best director: Damien Chazelle - La La Landpublished at 04:42 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2017

Making him the youngest winner of this category in Academy history, he accepted the award saying:

This was a movie about love and I was lucky enough to fall in love while making it.

  15. Halle's hairpublished at 04:42 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2017

Halle Berry, here to present the best director award, is making quite the tonsorial statement this year with a veritable explosion of curly twirls.

The 50-year-old Oscar winner told reporters on the red carpet she wanted to "celebrate her natural hair by allowing it to be natural and free".

This must be one of the worst Oscars for British winners for a while.

So far the only winners flying the flag are Orlando von Einsiedel and Joanna Natasegara (pictured), who won best documentary short for The White Helmets.

I think the only British interest in the remaining categories is Andrew Garfield in best actor and Lion producer Iain Canning in best picture - neither of whom is likely to win.
