    Homes are without power and roads are closed as heavy snow is causing widespread disruption across Wales.

    The A470 at Storey Arms in Powys is shut with Sennybridge, near Brecon, already seeing nearly 23cm (9in) of snow - the highest snowfall in the UK.

    More than 3,200 homes are without power across south and mid Wales.

    The following roads are closed:

    • M1 northbound between junctions 16 and 17, due to "numerous breakdowns/ collisions"
    • M40 outside Warwick between junctions 15 and 16, due to a multiple-vehicle collision
    • A417 in Gloucestershire in both directions between the A429 and A436, due to several collisions
    • A458 in Shropshire in both directions between the Welsh border and the A5 near Shrewsbury, due to a serious collision
  3. Runway closed until middaypublished at 09:23 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2017

    Flights in and out of East Midlands Airport have been delayed due to heavy snowfall.

    Bosses at the airport say the runway will be temporarily closed until at least midday when a further inspection will then take place.

    Passengers are being advised to check with their airline or on http://www.eastmidlandsairport.com before travelling.

  6. Heavy snow sweeps across the UKpublished at 09:16 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2017

    An amber weather warning for heavy snow has been issued for much of the UK.

    The Met Office says Wales, the Midlands, northern and eastern England are likely to be affected.

    It has extended the “be prepared” warning to include more parts of the south of England including Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex.

    Birmingham Airport has temporarily suspended all flights while staff work to clear the runway of snow while there is disruption on trains across the Midlands on South Western Railway services.
