    Here are some of the road closures because of the snow:

    The M1 northbound has re-opened between junctions 16 and 17 - it closed a few hours ago after several collisions and breakdowns.

    The M40 outside Warwick has re-opened between junctions 15 and 16.

    The A417 in Gloucestershire is still closed in both directions between the A429 and the A436. Highways England said there were "multiple separate collisions" in the area.

    The A458 in Shopshire is still closed in both directions between the Welsh border and the A5 near Shrewsbury.

    The A470 at Storey Arms in Powys, Wales, is still closed.

    In Berkshire, two lanes of the M4 London-bound are closed at Junction 13. It's because a lorry has jackknifed.

    The A34 is closed both ways due to multiple broken down cars between Milton and Chilton.

    The M40 is closed southbound due to broken down cars between Bicester and Oxford.

    A holiday company has apologised after a flight to Lapland was cancelled because freezing weather caused a technical fault.

    Several passengers complained on social media when flight TOM1792 from Newcastle to Kittila was cancelled this morning.

    A TUI spokeswoman said the plane suffered a technical fault “as a result of adverse weather conditions”.

    She said customers can rearrange their trip for free of receive a full refund.

    National Rail have advised of difficulties in travelling to Stansted Airport.

    They said that there were difficulties in travelling between Stansted Airport and Cambridge due to damage to overhead wires, whilst a limited train service is in operation between London Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport.

    Birmingham City Council says all of its schools will be closed on Monday because of the snow and freezing weather.

    Children's director Colin Diamond said: "Conditions will remain very hazardous tomorrow and the safety of our children and young people is of paramount importance.

    "Even if pupils walk to school we will not be able to guarantee enough staff on site to look after them."

    He added: “I would strongly advise all other schools within Birmingham to do the same.”

  13. 100 motorists stuck in Hertfordshirepublished at 14:19 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2017

    Hertfordshire Constabulary says the A41 has been closed in both directions between Hemel Hempstead and Bourne End because of "difficult driving conditions".

    A spokesperson says: "There are currently more than 100 vehicles stuck on the carriageway and emergency services are in attendance.

    "Despite the road being closed some motorists are still attempting to join the bypass which puts them and others at risk. Please avoid the A41 and adhere to all road closures that are currently in place across the county."

    The Met Office amber warning for snow has been extended to cover Hertfordshire.

    Elsewhere the West Midlands Ambulance Service are advising people to stay indoors and only travel if necessary.

    In a post on their Instagram feed, they gave out travel advice to those affected by the snowfall.

    In the West Midlands, bus services have been cancelled and trains disrupted.

    Not everyone saw the same level of disruption from the snow.

    Paul Davies is somewhat disappointed by the snowfall in Derby.

    "We were told we would get 200mm. We actually got 45mm #disappointed, external", he said on Instagram.

  16. Thousands of homes lose powerpublished at 14:02 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2017

    Electricity supplier SSE says up to 20,000 homes in Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Wiltshire are without power.

    A spokesman for the utility said snow and wind had resulted in tree branches coming into contact with overhead networks and causing disruption.

    SSE said it was urging people to check on vulnerable friends and relatives who live in affected areas.

  17. Ferry runs aground in Calaispublished at 14:02 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2017

    A P&O ferry briefly ran aground in Calais, northern France, due to high winds.

    Nobody was injured in the incident involving the Pride of Kent, port officials told news agency AFP.

    A spokesman for P&O said the incident happened when the ferry was leaving Calais for Dover: "There are no reported injuries, the ship was refloated within two hours and we hope to transfer our passengers to an alternative ship as soon as possible."

  18. Disruption at Heathrowpublished at 14:01 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2017

    Airlines at Heathrow are experiencing delays and cancellations.

    British Airways said It has cancelled 70 flights this morning but expect the number to rise.

    "Snow and freezing conditions across the UK and some parts of Europe are affecting some flights.

    "For safety reasons it has been agreed that the number of aircraft that can land at Heathrow each hour will be reduced."

    BA is advising its customers to check for information about their flights on its website, external before setting off for the airport, and not to turn up unless their flight is operating.

    It says the website outlines the options available to customers to make changes to their bookings.

    A spokesman added that refreshments and hotel accommodation are being provided for affected customers.

  19. National Rail 'helping three times the usual customers'published at 13:30 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2017

    Earlier, we said National Rail Enquiries were overwhelmed with enquiries after they tweeted to say that they couldn't respond to DMs anymore on Twitter "due to the level of enquiries".

    They've been in touch by email to us to say: "National Rail Enquiries has doubled its usual staffing levels, with every phone line in operation and is helping three times the usual number of customers."

  20. Snow Paddingtonpublished at 13:29 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2017

    Sevim Saunders, an artist in Tring, Hertfordshire, made this snow Paddington Bear with the help of her children. After sculpting the snow, she used acrylic water based paint to add Paddington's distinctive costume. Not bad for a morning's work!
