    No, it's conditions elsewhere that have led to these flights being called off.

    They include flights to and from London Stansted, Luton, Birmingham, Glasgow and Amsterdam.

    A campervan has been crushed by a fallen tree on the A40 near Sennybridge, Wales, closing the road.The area, near Brecon, has seen the deepest snowfall in the UK, where up to 30cm (12in) of snow has been recorded.

    The Metropolitan line on London's Tube network has re-opened.

    However, parts of the service have been suspended and there are severe delays.

    There is no service from Harrow on the Hill to Amersham/Chesham/Watford/Uxbridge and between Baker Street and Aldgate due to power supply problems caused by the snow.

    After spending the morning working on clearing snow and ice off the runway, staff at East Midlands Airport have re-opened the terminal. In a statement, a spokesperson said the airport was now "focused on ensuring the remaining scheduled services can depart".

    Flights have also resumed at Birmingham Airport and at Luton. Stansted re-opened a few hours ago.

    Passengers should still expect delays.

  16. Who's got the biggest snowman?published at 15:16 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2017

    So much snow has fallen in some areas of the country that people have been building surprisingly large snowmen.

    Lisa Chilton, her husband and her daughter in Welwyn Garden City built a huge snowman this morning in an hour and a half. Lisa's daughter named him Bob.

    In Hendon, London meanwhile, Simon Coote joined with his neighbours in his cul de sac to build a snowman they estimate to be 3-metres (10 foot) tall.

    But in Chelmsford Gavin Mitchell, his wife and two sons took advantage of the 7-10cm (3-4in) of snow to build their own frosty friend.

    The Environment Agency in the West Midlands will be using its 4x4s to help vulnerable people in areas affected by heavy snowfall.

    Dave Throup, the agency's manager in Herefordshire and Worcestershire, tweeted that their staff and 4x4s will be "available to help vulnerable people and allow patients to get to medical appointments".

    More on the P&O fery which ran aground in Calais during high winds.

    Two tugs were used to help pull the Pride of Kent off a sandbank in the French port, a local newspaper reports.

    P&O confirmed the incident in a statement and said the 300 passengers would be transferred to an alternative ship to take them to Dover.

    Emergency services in the East Midlands are advising people to only travel if necessary.

    The East Midlands Ambulance Service said "snow is still falling in some places [in the region] and driving conditions are very challenging"

    The Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said that people should observe road signs if they venture out, but they should "enjoy a day chilling - it’s not often we get snow and a reason to stay at home!"
