    Police have sealed off the road towards Tadcaster Bridge in North Yorkshire after a section of it fell into the River Wharfe earlier this evening.

  7. Elland Bridge 'closed for foreseeable future' after floodpublished at 18:36

    Engineers have been working on Elland Bridge in Calderdale all day since it partially collapsed in the early hours of this morning. 

    The council says it will be a big job to repair it.

    Flood damage

    At least one barge is still wedged against the bridge and several are now stranded on the towpath after the high water receded.

    Because of where the bridge is, Calderdale Council says it will be difficult to provide a diversion.

  9. North Yorkshire floodwater skier identifiedpublished at 18:30

    We've tracked down the water skier who was caught on camera, skiing through the flood water near Selby.

    He’s David Platt, from Selby, and he told us that he's a member of the White Cross Ski Club in Cawood.

    He currently training to try and make the GB team for barefoot skiing and was out practising with his friend Robert Crew when caught on camera.

    He's also a volunteer for the York Rescue Boat, external - but hasn't been part of their efforts to help with the recent floods as he doesn't yet have the required training for it.

    5 December: Storm Desmond brings more than a month's rain to parts of Cumbria, leading to flooding in Carlisle and other areas

    12 December: River levels remain high and more than 70 flood warnings are issued amid more heavy rain

    22 December: Communities in Cumbria flood again - some for the third time in less than a month

    25 December: More than 100 flood alerts and warnings are issued across England and Wales as Storm Eva takes hold and brings torrential rain

    26 December: Residents in West Yorkshire and Lancashire are evacuated from their homes and flooding hits Leeds, Greater Manchester and York

    27 December: Police in York advise hundreds of people to evacuate their homes as 24 severe flood warnings remain in place in the north-east of England

  11. Calder Valley flooding: Biker groups offer help theft crackdownpublished at 18:24

    Motorcycle clubs have offered to help police in the Calder Valley, West Yorkshire, to stop thieves taking advantage of flood-hit businesses and homes. 

    The Cycle Factory, a Todmorden bike shop which was flooded, has had a number of bikes stolen. Meanwhile, West Yorkshire Police say they've have received reports of people stealing items left outside people's homes to dry or to throw away in Mytholmroyd, Todmorden and Hebden Bridge.

    The force says patrols aimed at reassuring flood victims have been carried out by police and army personnel.

    A quick look at the environment agency's website shows that there's now just one severe 'risk to life' flood warnings in North Yorkshire - on the River Wharfe at Tadcaster, external.

    River levels in the county are falling while the clear-up operation continues.

    As more rain is forecast, we're being advised to keep an eye on Environment Agency updates for the latest information.

    Thanks to Sarah Topping for this dramatic video of the collapse of Tadcaster Bridge in North Yorkshire which happened a short time ago.

    The bridge has been closed to traffic and pedestrians since it became unstable after floods in the town on Boxing Day.

  18. Cumbria and Yorkshire warned to 'prepare for further flooding'published at 17:54

    The Environment Agency (EA) is warning people living in Cumbria and Yorkshire to prepare for further significant flooding, external from tomorrow.

    Heavy rain is expected in the north of England overnight and tomorrow, with the ground still saturated and river levels at record highs.

    The EA warns there could be further significant flooding, especially in Cumbria.
