  3. Flooding aftermath: 749 properties still without power in Yorkshirepublished at 12:54

    A total of 749 properties in Yorkshire are still without power following severe flooding in parts of the county over Christmas, electricity firm Northern Powergrid has confirmed.

    At the height of the flooding, about 37,000 homes and businesses lost their electricity supply due to Storm Eva, mostly in Leeds, the Calder Valley and York.

    Seven hundred and fourteen properties are still without power today in the Hebden Bridge area, as well as several in York. 

    Northern Powergrid says it's "working with local agencies to restore power as quickly as possible wherever it's safe to do so".

  6. Floods force Leeds Rhinos side out of training groundpublished at 12:30

    Leeds Rhinos have been forced to move out of their training ground after severe flooding at the weekend.

    The Super League champions and rugby union club Yorkshire Carnegie train in Kirkstall next to the River Aire, which burst its banks on Sunday.

    All seven training pitches, in addition to the main building, were contaminated by flood water.

    It's likely to be at least a month before the two sides and 60 staff will be able to return.

  8. Council pledges to help flood victims in Rochdalepublished at 12:16

    Rochdale Council is offering a one-off payment of £500 to help flooded households recover, external, as well as business tax relief for companies forced to leave their properties.

    Councillor Richard Farnell, leader of Rochdale Borough Council, says: "There are many people facing extremely challenging circumstances after the terrible flooding that affected parts of our borough." 

    Meanwhile, Rochdale Council skips have been placed in affected areas to help people clear debris from their homes, and there's been a warning that mud from the floods could be contaminated with raw sewage. 

  9. Preparing for the worst: Sandbagging York's telephone exchangepublished at 12:08

    Soldiers from C Company, 2nd Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment, have been making flood defences at the BT Exchange near the River Ouse in York this morning.

    It's in preparation for more heavy rainfall and possible flooding expected to arrive with Storm Frank.

  12. 'Apply for EU disaster relief cash', MEP tells David Cameronpublished at 11:43

    Theresa Griffin, Labour MEP for North West England, has told BBC Radio Manchester funding is available for victims of flooding under the EU's Solidarity Fund.

    She's calling on the Prime Minister to apply for this money, which she says could be used to help the North West recover from the recent devastating floods.  

    Ms Griffin claims David Cameron hasn't responded to a letter she wrote to him on 8 December, following previous flooding in Lancashire and Cumbria.

  13. Norfolk gets behind collections to help England's flood victimspublished at 11:35

    Norfolk is coming together to do its bit to help people flooded out of their homes in the north of England, with a lorry firm sending household goods, bedding and clothing from North Walsham tomorrow morning. 

    Saxon Motors says its drivers use the M62 regularly and were shocked by the devastation.

  14. Some disruption on Northern Rail servicespublished at 11:17

    Following the recent storms, many routes have been restored, but some train services are still being disrupted, Northern Rail says.

    The company advises customers to check before travelling, external as there is still disruption between:

    Carlisle – Maryport

    Hexham – Carlisle

    Leeds - Shipley/Ilkley.

    Deepening quickly in the Atlantic is Storm Frank, which is expected to bring more heavy rain to flood-hit areas and other parts of the UK.

    The Foss Barrier is now in the closed position after repairs at the site in York.

    Four of eight pumps are now working again, with water being moved from the River Foss into the River Ouse.

  18. Flooding hits hospital phone linespublished at 10:50

    Recent flooding has affected part of the phone system used within Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

    The trust says calls made directly to departments or hospital wards at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital and Furness General Hospital may not be functioning properly.  

    The problem is being investigated but anyone wishing to contact wards or departments should go through the main switchboard number on 01539 732288.

  19. Floods minister's concerns over Storm Frankpublished at 10:44

    Floods minister Rory Stewart warned there could be a "very bad situation" for flood-hit residents as a fresh storm approaches. 

    Asked how concerned he was about the forecasts for Storm Frank, Mr Stewart told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "Very concerned. These emergency services personnel have been working really hard, so have volunteers. 

    "I'm now working my way across Yorkshire, heading back up to Cumbria. People have barely had a break for three and a half weeks because this has been going continually since early December.

    "As you say, there's another front coming in, there could be more flooding again so we really need emergency services, voluntary groups, mountain rescue to rest to be ready for what could be a very bad situation Wednesday, Thursday."
