    Blackpool Teaching Hospitals' telephone system in North Lancashire and South Cumbria is still affected by floods, limiting its ability to receive incoming calls.

    BT has put in place measures which allow the sites to receive calls – at a reduced capacity.

    Outgoing calls and internal calls are not affected by the fault.

    Dramatic scenes in Tadcaster as the bridge here has collapsed following the recent floods. There had been fears about the bridge which has been closed to traffic and pedestrians since the flooding on Boxing Day.

    During today, it's clear the bridge was looking "iffy" and a short time ago suddenly it collapsed at its eastern edge.

    There are concerns the collapse may have severed gas mains so for now we've been evacuated about 150m up Bridge Street.

    Tadcaster Bridge in North Yorkshire has collapsed. 

    The area has been evacuated due to concerns that a gas pipe has ruptured.

    In the Calder Valley, an appeal to raise funds for those affected by the flooding has already raised £115,000. 

    More than 2,000 homes and businesses have been affected in the area.

    A rescue boat from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service has been deployed to Cumbria in readiness for Storm Frank.

    The boat is in addition to locally-provided flood response resources provided by the Fire and Rescue Service.

    The Labour MP for Leeds West, Rachel Reeves, says the response to flooding on Kirkstall Road in the city has been amazing.

    Work is still under way to clear debris from homes and businesses in the area.

    A group of about seven Syrian refugees living in Greater Manchester is helping flood clear-up and prevention efforts in Littleborough.

    Yasser Al-Jassem​, who came up with the idea, arrived in Britain having fled both the Assad regime and Daesh. 

    He says they are "honoured" to give back to communities "that have so warmly taken us in".

  9. Morrisons donates £100,000 to flood-hit families in Northpublished at 16:48

    Bradford-based supermarket Morrisons is to give £100,000 to groups helping families affected by the floods, external in the north of England. 

    The funds are being given to flood appeals in Greater Manchester, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Scotland and Cumbria to spend on clean-up costs, emergency repairs and emergency supplies of clothing and food and drink.

    David Potts, the company's chief executive, says: “We have seen the terrible impact that the floods have had on communities that we serve and we want to do our bit to help."

    The Jorvik Viking Centre in York is just one corner of this historic city that's now counting the cost.

    "It's really hard to see it like this," Sarah Maltby said as we waded through the contaminated floodwater that's closed the museum.

    The faces of the Viking dummies looked strange in the torchlight and it felt warm and damp. 

    Sarah is the museum's director of attractions. She explains how they saved some of their priceless exhibits by ripping a door off its hinges and using it as a flood barrier. 

    "Within about six hours we moved all our most valuable items - an original Viking sock, bowls and tools all dating back to the ninth century."

    The floods have caused substantial damage to Elland Bridge in West Yorkshire.

    There are suggestions at the scene that it could remain closed for up to a year.

  12. Storm Frank coastguard warning: 'Don't take storm selfies'published at 16:29

    A senior coastguard official is urging people not to take storm selfies, ahead of the onset of Storm Frank which is predicted to cause high winds and rain tomorrow.

    Mark Rodaway, commander with HM Coastguard, says: "We’ve all seen the dramatic pictures of flooding inland and seen from previous years some equally dramatic images from coastal storms.   

    "Do not be tempted to go out and take those photographs yourself. No photograph or selfie is worth risking your life for."

  15. Money to be made available to those affected by floodspublished at 16:06

    People who live in Calderdale and have been flooded will have their council tax bills and business rates suspended for up to six months, external and could also benefit from grants.

    Calderdale Council says it is asking for financial assistance from the government.

    The authority also says it is concerned about the lack of available insurance for householders and businesses, and will raise this with the government for a quick resolution.

  18. Flood dog 'rescued from waist-high water' in Radcliffe, Manchesterpublished at 15:41

    In Radcliffe, Greater Manchester, Andrew Doherty and his family have been assessing the extent of the damage to their home which flooded on 26 December.

    "The whole house has got to be completely stripped - we've lost absolutely everything downstairs," he's told BBC Radio Manchester.   

    "We were under about 4ft of water downstairs. We literally had to lift our dog above our heads to get him out because the water was over waist high."

  20. Sightseers warned to stay away from flood-hit areas in Calderdalepublished at 15:27

    People are being warned by police to avoid travelling to the Mytholmroyd and Elland Bridge/Park Road areas of Calderdale, external, West Yorkshire,"unless absolutely necessary".

    West Yorkshire Police say they're receiving reports of members of the public "going to 'have a look'" at recovery work after flooding in the area.

    "This is causing significant traffic issues which are hampering the joint services relief operation," the force says.
