  8. 'Be responsible' when contacting policepublished at 11:30 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

A warning has been handed out by Bedfordshire Police for people to "be responsible when contacting them."

Ch Insp Rachael Glendenning said: "When severe weather hits there are additional pressures on the emergency services, so it is important to ensure that you use the emergency 999 number and 101 non-emergency number responsibly.

"When snow came our way in December last year, we received more than 450 extra calls in to our control room one day and not all of them were relevant.

"Using 999 or 101 for something that is not a policing matter ties up our call handlers, and may delay getting help to those who are in real need of police assistance," she said.

  14. Driving advice from Suffolk Policepublished at 11:15 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

If you're driving today, here are the steps you should take according to police...

    • Always ensure all windows are fully cleared of snow, frost and condensation before setting off on a journey - it is illegal to drive with obscured vision.
    • Ensure that dirt, salt and snow is cleared away from light fixtures.
    • Also clear snow from the top of the car as this can fall down and obscure your windscreen while you are driving.
    • Keep windscreen washer fluid topped up as windscreens quickly become dirty from traffic spray and salt from the roads.
    • If you get stuck in the snow stay with your car, but in an emergency if you do need to leave it, park it out of the main traffic route, where it won't cause an obstruction when conditions ease. Leave a contact number on the inside of the windscreen and return to your car at the first opportunity you have.
    • Allow extra time for your journeys.
    • Reduce speed gradually – sharp braking in freezing conditions can result in a skid.
    • Increase distance between you and the vehicle in front.
    • Make sure you have sufficient fuel.
    • Take a fully charged mobile phone with you.
    • Take provisions with you for long periods of time in your car.

  15. More heavy snow due in Norfolkpublished at 11:15 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

The latest warning has been put out by the Met Office, which shows more snow is expected across the Eastern region - and particularly Norfolk.

Snow amber warningImage source, Met Office

The "amber" warning from Norwich northwards is due to last until 16:00.

The Met Office says: "Frequent heavy snow showers will continue for much of today. Travel delays on roads are very likely, with snow perhaps leading to some stranded vehicles and passengers; delays or cancellations to rail and air travel are also likely.

"Some rural communities could become cut off briefly. Power cuts may also occur and other services, such as mobile phones, may be affected."

  16. 'Only get behind the wheel if completely necessary'published at 10:58 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    David Keller
    BBC News

That is the latest advice Norfolk Police has released after heavy snow has fallen across the county.

While the reported number of crashes remains relatively low (one crash where someone has been hurt and 12 non-injury collisions), the road conditions are making travel difficult, with some journeys currently near to impossible.

There are blockages on the A11, A47 and A140.

Supt Chris Harvey said: "Only get behind the wheel if it is completely necessary. If you are going to travel, please make sure your vehicle is prepared for the journey ahead.

"Our priority is those who are already stuck or have been involved in an RTC [road traffic collision]. Please bear with us, we have to take the same precautions you do and it may take us slightly longer to get to you.

"This weather is likely to be here for the next 24 hours at least. Please think about how you are going to get around the county and if it is truly necessary."
