    Adverse weather conditions have closed hundreds of schools across Essex this morning.

  2. Police say A1 'impassible'published at 06:49 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    As we recently mentioned, the A1 has been closed both ways north of Peterborough following heavy snowfall.

    The Beds, Herts and Cambs Roads Policing Unit said the weather conditions had made the carriageways "impassible".

    The severe weather is continuing to cause disruption across Suffolk, with more than 100 schools currently shut.

    Norfolk County Council says 250 schools have been closed this morning as a result of the cold weather.

  5. Amber warning of snow for the Eastpublished at 06:39 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    The Met Office has issued an amber warning for snow, valid until 10:00 this morning.

    Heavy snow showers affected many areas overnight, with the warning most likely to impact those in Norfolk, Suffolk and parts of Essex.

    An amber warning means travel delays and cancellations are likely and some rural communities could become cut off.

    Meanwhile, a yellow warning for snow remains valid for the rest of the East of England until 23:55 tonight.

    Police are warning motorists to avoid the A1 north of Peterborough this morning.

    Beds, Cambs and Herts Roads Policing Unit tweeted, external to say it is closed northbound and southbound with "extreme delays".

  8. Greater Anglia expects to run 'full service' tomorrowpublished at 16:35 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

    Rail services are being restored after a day of numerous cancellations, Greater Anglia and Network Rail have said.

    The firms said safety restrictions which were brought in ahead of the snow have been lifted.

    Network Rail , externalsaid the snow fell further south than predicted, so things "have not been as bad" as feared.

    Ipswich to Felixstowe services have been reinstated and Greater Anglia, external said it expected to run a full service tomorrow.

    Steve Hooker, head of maintenance delivery for Network Rail, says the level of snow forecast for tonight is lower than first thought and "will not bother us".

    I've been looking at the weather forecast and further flurries of snow are expected in the East.

    Heavy snow showers are predicted in east Essex, east Suffolk and north and east Norfolk.

    It looks like Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire will also get some, but just not so deeply.

    There is currently slow traffic on the A120 eastbound between the A12, Colchester bypass at junction 20 and the A133 at the Clacton turn off.

    It's after an earlier crash involving 17 vehicles.
