  2. One Cambridgeshire school closes because of weatherpublished at 12:22 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

    Wisbech in the north of Cambridgeshire has finally succumbed to the Beast from the East, resulting in a school closure.

    Meadowgate Academy in the town is the only school in Cambridgeshire County Council's list to have been closed due to today's cold snap.

    It might be good news for children longing for a snow day, but it's almost certainly "beastly" news for their parents.

    The Essex Roads Policing team has so far dealt with 32 accidents in the county since 05:00.

    It is currently dealing a serious incident on the A120 between Colchester and Elmstead Market involving 17 vehicles.

    You might have seen these photos of a Cambridge punter in lots of the national newspapers today.

    That's right, punters only put jackets on when it's really, really cold, and the snow flurries that hit the county on Monday certainly didn't warrant an extra layer for this hardy soul.

    Professional photographer Martin Bond has made it his mission to capture a different image of his home city every day for the past eight years.

    A Cambridge Diary, external documents the city throughout the year, as the seasons change, and on Monday he snapped this punt guide, not exactly dressed for the blizzard conditions.

    You can just about see the snow-covered passengers who decided it was great weather for a tour of the backs of the colleges and the River Cam, but as Mr Bond wrote on social media, it was "one for all the northerners who think we're a bit soft down here".

    He's "so hard", the snow doesn't dare settle on him, Mr Bond added.
