    The sub-zero temperatures will mean Greater Anglia, external will run a limited train service across the East today.

    The restrictions will last from 06:00 to 22:00 tonight.

    The main train services to London out of Norwich, Cambridge, Ipswich and Stansted Airport will be running - but less frequent - so early checking is advisable.

    A man has been charged with attempted murder following an incident in Aylesbury.

    A woman, in her 50s, was found with serious injuries in Belgrave Road on Sunday at about 02:00.

    She is in hospital undergoing treatment and remains in a serious but stable condition.

  8. Hospitals seek almost £1.6m in patients' unpaid billspublished at 17:04 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2018

    Almost £1.6m is owed to hospitals in Essex by overseas patients who are yet to pay for their treatment.

    Figures obtained by the BBC under the Freedom of Information Act show the five hospitals are seeking just over a third of the £2.5m cost of treating non-EU patients since 2015.

    Among them is a man from India who owes £94,000 for his treatment for sepsis at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow.

    Nick Alston, chairman of Mid Essex Hospital Trust, said: "We need to crack down on health tourists - people who deliberately come here for treatment and cannot pay - and we are doing that."

    Earlier this month, it was reported that a Nigerian woman has run up a £330,000 bill for NHS treatment after she gave birth prematurely to quadruplets in a London hospital.

  9. Borehamwood kitten dies after being shot with air riflepublished at 17:01 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2018

    A kitten has died after being shot with an air rifle in Borehamwood.

    It happened between 15:00 and 16:00 on 23 January near Arundel Drive.

    The cat, named Fang, managed to return home and was taken to the vets for treatment, but he died from his injuries on 29 January.

    PC Yaser Khan said: "Understandably, the kitten's owners have been left extremely distressed by what has happened."

    Officers are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on the non-emergency number 101.

  11. Makeover under way for Whipsnade Zoo's chalk lionpublished at 16:22 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2018

    The largest hill figure in England is receiving a makeover and its transformation is almost complete.

    Whipsnade Zoo's infamous "chalk lion" is being cleaned up and a spokesperson for the zoo says the figure should be back to full glory by 19 March.

    An ambulance service has shared a "thank you" note from a grateful member of the public which was left on their windscreen at the weekend.

    It was shared on social media days after after an unpleasant message, which was left on a West Midlands Ambulance Service vehicle telling them to move one of their emergency ambulances, resulted in a public outcry and a fine for the woman who left the foul-mouthed note in Stoke-on-Trent.

    Steve Wainwright, a Peterborough-based senior emergency medical technician at the NHS East of England Ambulance Service, tweeted a picture of a note posted on his ambulance windscreen to show colleagues how much they are appreciated.

    "Such a lovely message from an unknown member of the public left on the windscreen of the ambulance. Thank you," he wrote.

    A 19-year-old man has been arrested after police raided a house near Peterborough and found a cannabis factory this morning.

    Some 84 plants, with a street value of about £40,000 were found inside the property in Carradale, in Orton Brimbles, at about 08:45.

    The man, arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis, is still in police custody.

    Peterborough City Hospital has closed to all but emergency life-saving procedures after suffering a "severe water supply issue".

    North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, external, which runs the hospital, has declared a "critical internal incident" closing all outpatient clinics and cancelling all surgeries scheduled for Monday other than "those of a life-, limb- or sight-saving nature".

    Visitors have also been told they cannot come to the hospital except in "extenuating circumstances".

    The trust would not elaborate on the nature of the water "issue", but said measures had been put in place to ensure all patients on wards had access to toilet and hand-washing facilities.

    A man arrested on suspicion of kidnap has been released under investigation by police.

    The 25-year-old was arrested by armed officers who were called to Wherstead Road, Ipswich, at 05:30 yesterday.

    Concerns had been raised about a woman in her 20s who was being held against her will, Suffolk Police, external said.

    The force said a firearm found at the scene was taken away for forensic testing.

    The man and the woman are believed to have known each other, it said.

    A survey by a Norwich-based eating disorder charity has found many people wouldn't have a clue about how to spot early symptoms of someone who has a condition.

    Beat's national survey, external showed a third of people couldn't correctly spot the signs of an eating disorder, instead only noticing the disorder once there had been dramatic weight loss.

    Rebecca Field from Beat says mental health symptoms such as low self-esteem and depression arise months before the physical damage is done.

    She says can be usually be treated more quickly if there's an earlier diagnosis.

    "It's also cheaper for the NHS because when people are caught earlier, their treatment is less intensive, they don't have to go into hospital which is hugely costly," she said.
