    At least 20 schools across Northamptonshire have been closed today because of the snow.

    The county council's website includes a list of school closures in the area, external.

    The authority's list is not comprehensive as many schools, update their own websites, especially if they are academies which are not under council control.

    Parents are advised to contact schools directly if they are unsure.

    A warning has been given by the BCH Road Policing unit, external, to not drive along Peakirk Road between Rippons Drove and Church Street in Northborough, Peterborough, as it is impassable.

    They say "numerous" vehicles have been towed out this morning, after getting stuck.

    A planned visit to Northamptonshire today by the Princess Royal, external has been cancelled.

    Princess Anne was due to visit Northampton Town Football Club's Education Centre, but officials have confirmed that due to the weather conditions it'll be rescheduled for later in the year.

    A woman has been taken to hospital with minor injuries after the car she was in crashed into a house.

    Bedfordshire Police received a call at 15:10 on Wednesday, to reports of a vehicle hitting a front door on Knights Close, Eaton Bray near Dunstable.

    The vehicle was made safe, a structural engineer was sent for and firefighters checked for gas leaks, but none were found.

  10. Ice-skid bus passenger saved by 'good Samaritan'published at 09:59 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2018

    A passenger has been rescued by a motorist after the bus they were on became stranded after skidding on ice.

    The Stagecoach 16A bus got stuck in West Wratting, Cambridgeshire this morning with just one passenger and the driver on board.

    While engineers work to assess whether the vehicle can be moved, the company's managing director Andy Campbell said a passing motorist stopped and offered to drive the stranded passenger on to their destination.

    The service is usually used by school children travelling between Great Thurlow in Suffolk and Cambridge, but with many schools shut in both counties, only one adult was on the bus.

    Norfolk resident and BBC Television sports presenter Jake Humphrey has made an offer to help vulnerable people stranded in their rural homes by the snow and cold weather.

    He says he has a 4x4 vehicle which makes it easier for him to deal with snow drifts and ice-bound roads.

    The Beast From The East is causing dangerous driving conditions in Bedfordshire.

    The county's fire and rescue service, external is warning motorists to "plan extra time if you need to travel, and drive with care".

    They say that "stopping distances are up to 10 times longer in snow and ice, even despite gritting".

  20. School-run bus stuck after ice skidpublished at 08:59 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2018

    A bus has become stuck after skidding on ice in West Wratting, Cambridgeshire.

    The Stagecoach 16A service, which runs between Great Thurlow in Suffolk and Cambridge mainly runs to "take children to and from school", the company's managing director Andy Campbell says.

    It's not yet known how many people are on board the bus.

    Mr Campbell said engineers have been sent out to Mill Road - where the bus is currently blocking the road -with grit, to assess the situation.
