A man who is selling a box of 12 iceberg lettuces online for £50 amid a nationwide supermarket shortage has turned down a £7 offer amid a "fair bit of interest" - and insults.
The teaching assistant from Kings Norton, Dave Burrows, said he had been called "insane" for advertising the salad on an internet vending site.
He said of a potential customer offering a harsher insult that he "obviously wouldn't sell them to him" and hoped he "wasn't planning on making a prawn cocktail anytime soon".
Mr Burrows said he did not have any courgettes or peppers - other items supermarkets say are in short supply because of bad weather in Europe - but he "was hoping to get hold of some".
He said: "I got one of the last trays of lettuces from a wholesaler and thought I would try to make a bit of profit."

Read MoreFour youths who injured a taxi passenger when a thrown stone fractured her skull have been told they were "incredibly fortunate" nobody was killed by their "reckless" actions.
District Judge Joanna Dickens said: "If you were adults you would all be going to jail today for a lengthy period of time, such is the seriousness."
Instead, they were made subject to one-year youth rehabilitation orders.
The youths targeted a hackney carriage carrying an elderly couple along Bellevue Avenue, Edgbaston, last May.
The stone shattered a window, hitting a 77-year-old woman and showering her fellow passenger in shards of glass.
The injured pensioner was left bleeding and "screaming" in shock and pain.
Five other taxis - one of which was also carrying a passenger - were hit on the same night, causing at least £1,600 in damage.
