    Walsall failed to close the gap on the play-off places in League One, losing 1-0 to Fleetwood at the Banks's Stadium. 

    That result also ended a run of six consecutive wins at home for the Saddlers. 

    After the defeat, the Walsall boss Jon Whitney said he was still pleased with the attitude shown by his players.

    Burglars have targeted a house near Stourbridge being renovated after a fatal fire. 

    Colin Dunn died in a fire at an address in Bobbington last November. 

    His wife has been unable to move back while it is being renovated. 

    Thieves took TVs and a watch during a break-in there last week, according to Staffordshire Police.

    Unemployment in the West Midlands rose by 9,000 to 160,000 in the three months, external to January, official figures show. 

    They show the region saw the joint-largest jobless increase compared with the rest of the country - five other areas also saw rises.

    It means the current unemployment rate in the West Midlands is 5.6%, the Office for National Statistics said.

    That compares with the UK unemployment rate falling to 4.7%, its lowest rate in 41 years in the three months to January.

    Wolves made it two wins in a row in the Championship, beating Dean Smith's Brentford 2-1 at Griffin Park.

    The win moves Paul Lambert's side four points clear of the relegation zone. 

    Wolves were made to wait however, scoring both goals inside the last 10 minutes, but Lambert said he was not worried his team would fail to get the reward their performance deserved.

    Plans to change the face of Wolverhampton have been showcased at an international property conference.

    The city council hopes to redevelop a commercial district, which would involve rebuilding the train station and the Mander Centre, but incorporating Victorian landmarks like the Chubb buildings and Prince Albert pub.

    CGI images have gone on show at the MIPIM conference in Cannes, which is attended by property tycoons and civic leaders from around the world advertising their wares.

    Operator London Midlands warned, external trains may be delayed by more than 30 minutes, or cancelled.

  11. Delays on trains between Birmingham and Coventry due to emergency incident published at 09:21 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2017

    Rail services between Birmingham New Street and Coventry are subject to delays and cancellations this morning after emergency services were called out to Stechford, after reports  someone had been hit by a train, external .

    All lines have now re-opened, but London Midland and Virgin West Coast are warning passengers of ongoing delays and short notice cancellations.

  12. Ambulance service confirms Twitter hackpublished at 08:57 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2017

    West Midlands Ambulance Service has confirmed its Twitter account was hacked this morning. 

    The tweet which went up at around 07:00 carried text supporting the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan who is in a feud with Germany and the Netherlands.

    The post was deleted shortly afterwards.

    The ambulance service says it's now removed the post and changed its passwords and security settings. 

    Other Twitter accounts also appeared to have been hacked overnight, external including the BBC North America account which tweeted at 07:39, external : "Hi everyone - we temporarily lost control of this account, but normal service has resumed. Thanks."

  13. Bake A Cake wedding fraudster jailed for three yearspublished at 08:42 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2017

    A Halesowen woman and her husband are starting jail sentences this morning for conning hundreds of people out of money for things like wedding cakes and photography packages which never arrived.

    Wedding company boss who scammed brides is jailed

    Bake A Cake Catering, in Halesowen, ceased trading in August 2015, failing to deliver wedding services for which people had paid.

    Wolverhampton Crown Court heard there were 700 victims, with some forced to cancel their weddings.

    Lisa Holt, 41, was described by the judge as "irresponsible, cruel and deceitful" as she was jailed for three years.

    Her husband, Ryan Holt, 42, received nine months for laundering the proceeds.

    Leicestershire Foxes have signed New Zealand international wicketkeeper-batsman Luke Ronchi for the duration of the T20 Blast.

    Ronchi, who has scored 1,619 T20 career runs, has been signed to replace Sharjeel Khan who is the subject of an ongoing anti-corruption investigation.

    Leicestershire head coach Pierre de Bruyn said: “We’re delighted to sign Luke, who will offer power and dynamism to our batting line-up. 

    "He has played a lot of games around the world and his experience in the shortest format of the game will also help our youngsters."  

    Ronchi has previously had spells in county cricket with Warwickshire and Somerset.
