  14. Analysis of Trojan Horse case collapsepublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 30 May 2017

    Elizabeth Glinka
    BBC Midlands Today

This is not the first time these professional misconduct hearings have run into difficulties.

The fact the case presented by the National Council for Teaching and Learning has been so heavily criticised will surely be an embarrassment, not just to the organisation, but perhaps also the Department for Education which commissioned the Clark Report.

In February this year legal representatives for Birmingham City Council and two teaching unions appeared at the proceedings, in an attempt to protect the identities of whistleblowers who had given evidence regarding the senior teachers' behaviour to the Clark investigation.

During that evidence lawyers for the five teachers argued repeatedly that the NCTL had mishandled the case and failed to disclose material which would have allowed them to better defend their clients.

Today the panel said the "integrity" of the whole process had been called into question, after it became clear the NCTL legal team had "deliberately withheld " material from the other side.

There is no question in the blame for the collapse of the hearings has been placed at the door of the NCTL.
