    The author of the Harry Potter books, JK Rowling, has urged her fans not to buy a rare handwritten story, which has been stolen from a house in Birmingham.

    Traders in Bilston say they are very concerned repair work to the tram network in Wolverhampton is going to cause traffic chaos, as well as a significant loss of trade.

    The stolen Harry Potter prequel was bought nine years ago at a charity auction to help raise money for a dyslexia charity, its owner says.

    Hira, as he wishes to be known, says the work, which cost him £25,000, is "priceless" and if it is sold on again legitimately it has the potential to raise more money for good causes.

    However, he fears thieves may have sold it for "pocket change" or destroyed it or put it in the bin because they are unaware of its value.

    He says he has only read one of the Harry Potter series of books himself and was away from home working at the time of the break-in in Kings Heath, Birmingham, some time between 13 and 24 April

    The 800-word handwritten by JK Rowling prequel was written on a postcard.

    A bid for Birmingham and the surrounding area to host the Commonwealth Games in 2022 has been confirmed.

    Martin Reeves, chief executive of the West Midlands Combined Authority, said there were plans for a 2026 bid - but as Durban has pulled out as host for 2022 this will now be the focus.

    Redknapp finalised the details of his contract last night, Blues say.    

    The 70-year-old former West Ham and Tottenham boss replaced Gianfranco Zola at St Andrew's for the final three Championship games of the season.

    Redknapp guided the side to survival, winning two out of three, as they avoided relegation to League One by two points, with Blackburn going down.

    A support centre for cancer survivors set up by the Help Harry Help Others campaign faces closure or relocation as its site in Stechford, Birmingham, is to undergo regeneration.

    The service was set up by Georgina Moseley whose 11-year-old son Harry died from a brain tumour in 2011. 

    It has helped more than 300 families with its three-fold approach - Help Cope, Help Care, Help Cure, external - offering support services, helping to meet the costs of care and pointing families towards treatment.

    The city council says it forewarned the centre of the regeneration and has been able to extend their occupation for another nine months, but the site will be marketed for development next year.

    Harry became well-known through his presence on Twitter after being diagnosed with a tumour after becoming ill in 2007. Many people bought his bracelets for his fundraising campaign.

    Gary Mullins-Downes has been using the service since he was operated on for a rare form of lung cancer and said it helped him battle back from the depression he suffered during his recovery from the illness.

    Drayton Manor Theme Park is closed for a third day following the death of an 11-year-old after falling from the river rapid ride on Tuesday. 

    The park, based in Tamworth, says health and safety inspectors are on site carrying out investigations.

    Staffordshire Police says it expects the post mortem of Evha Jannath, from Leicester, to be carried out on Monday.

    The closure is unprecedented in the park's 67-year history and it is not yet clear when it will re-open.

    The manuscript was penned on both sides of an A5 card for a charity auction nine years ago and sold for £25,000. 

    The untitled 800-word work was taken from Howard Road, Kings Heath, Birmingham, in a break-in between 13 and 24 April, West Midlands Police said.

    Set three years before Harry Potter's birth, it features the schoolboy wizard's father James Potter and godfather Sirius Black, when they were teenagers.
