    Bas Javid, the Police Commander at Solihull Police shared a letter on his Twitter account , externalthat had been sent in by a member of the public praising Solihull officers.

    The author of the letter said they had been "compelled to put pen to paper to praise all of those involved in keeping our country safe".

    The letter noted two officers in particular who were patrolling at a shopping centre and were "engaging in conversations".

    The letter added the officers were "polite and friendly".

  6. Walsall terror arrest was 'pre-planned'published at 16:24 British Summer Time 12 June 2017

    West Midlands Police said the arrest of a man on suspicion of terror offences was "pre-planned and intelligence-led", adding "there was no threat to the public's safety".

    A 27-year-old is currently being questioned by the West Midlands Counter-Terrorism Unit and a Walsall address is being searched.

    "The arrest is not connected in any way to the Manchester or London attacks," a force spokesman said.

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences.

    West Midlands Police say the arrest is not connected to the Manchester or London attacks.

    The 27-year-old was arrested in Walsall on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism.

    The address is being searched and police are questioning the suspect.

    Preet Gill, the first female Sikh MP will start work today as the Labour MP for Birmingham Edgbaston.

    There has been a lot of media attention around Preet Gill and Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi - the first turban-wearing Sikh MP.

    The Sikh Federation said the two new MPs will "make the Sikh community proud" and have "so much to offer".

  9. Birmingham music studio re-opens after renovationpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 12 June 2017

    A music studio in Birmingham which was used by bands including UB40 (pictured performing on Top of Pops in 1980) and Duran Duran has re-opened following a £40,000 renovation.

    Highbury Studios in Kings Heath is under new ownership and will be known as Rain Studios, external.

    Chris Poole is the director of Rainbow Colours and says he's purchased the studio to maintain the building's music heritage.

  11. Man with learning difficulties 'shown knife during hat theft'published at 14:02 British Summer Time 12 June 2017

    A 19-year-old man with learning difficulties had his hat stolen on a bus after a member of a group showed him "what appeared to be a knife" tucked in his waistband, West Midlands Police said.

    Officers released CCTV footage after the incident on the number 11 bus in Harborne at around 0815 on 10 May - and are appealing for information.

    Once the victim handed over his hat, the suspects (pictured) got off the bus and ran off, "somewhere in the vicinity of Court Oak Road," a police spokesman said.

    A lorry's hit a bridge in Lichfield and overturned.

    Staffordshire Police says it happened just after 12:30 today on the A5127.

    The force says the road's been blocked after the collision and they're working with the fire service and Network Rail to get it moved.

    They say the lorry driver only suffered minor injuries.

    England footballing history was made yesterday, saying goodbye to the 50 years of hurt!

    England's under 20s side won their World Cup, the country's first World Champions since 1996, they beat Venezuela 1-0 in Sunday's final.

    Supporting the team all the way, even getting a winner's medal was the under-20s kitman Pat Frost, who is from the Black Country and used to work at West Bromwich Albion.

    The bearded Brummie is the son of a steelworker, who went to grammar school and joined the Conservative Party at the age of 17.

    He is credited with influencing the PM's views on social mobility and the need to put the Conservatives "at the service of working people".

    His ambition to be a Conservative MP was reportedly thwarted by David Cameron, following a row over special advisers being asked to canvass in a by-election.

    Mr Timothy wrote as he announced his resignation, he had helped win "more than 13.6 million votes, which is a historically high number, and more than Tony Blair won in all three of his election victories", only to be thwarted by "an unexpected surge in support for Labour".

  19. Partially sighted man falls on to tracks at New Street Stationpublished at 11:01 British Summer Time 12 June 2017

    A partially sighted man fell on to the tracks while trying to board a train in Birmingham on Sunday.

    The passenger, believed to be in his 40s, became trapped between the train and the platform at the city's New Street station at about 09:15.

    Engineers isolated the charge of the electric train before six firefighters lifted the man away from the line.

    He was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. Network Rail said an investigation was under way.
