Selly Oak MP Steve McCabe said he shouted at motorcyclists for riding recklessly moments before they injured him by throwing a brick.
Mr McCabe was with Labour volunteers in the Yardley Wood area of Birmingham when he saw two motorcyclists "doing wheelies in the middle of the road".
He said "we've had umpteen complaints about this kind of dangerous behaviour and so I shouted at them to pack it in or I'd call the police".
A brick was then thrown at Mr McCabe who has been left with a swollen face. West Midlands Police is investigating.

A 29-year-old man radicalised in his Birmingham bedroom is due to be sentenced today for making an improvised bomb using fairy lights.
At his trial earlier this year, Zahid Hussain was found guilty of preparing an act of terrorism. Birmingham Crown Court heard he believed his homemade device, which was packed with shrapnel, was capable of causing devastation despite it being non-viable.
Police found an "improvised laboratory" at his Alum Rock home with igniters designed from fairy lights.
In the days running up to his arrest, Hussain had made repeated visits to a section of the main high speed train line that links London to Birmingham, which the prosecution said was to research a possible attack.
