    West Midlands Police says officers featured in video "relating to arrests" made in Birmingham yesterday will not be on usual duties while an "assessment" of the footage is under way.

    The review, the force says, pertains to video circulating on social media. It shows interaction between plain clothes policemen and members of the public.

    A statement said: "Whilst an assessment is being carried out by experts in the Professional Standards Department, the officers featured in the footage will not be deployed on usual duties.

    "We are continuing to gather as much information as swiftly as possible to understand exactly what has happened.

    "As always, we are treating this matter seriously."

    The great-niece of Private Thomas Madelin who died at Passchendaele will attend a service in Ypres to mark 100 years since the battle started.

    Pte Madelin had already been wounded twice before he died

    Pte Madelin died aged 25 on 16 August 1917, just over two weeks into the battle.

    He was buried in a marked grave on the battlefield, but fighting later destroyed it, meaning the soldier's descendents have commemorated him by tying a poppy cross to a nearby tree.

    Miranda Ingram, who lives near Lichfield, will wear her great uncle's three service medals to the ceremony.

    Jess Phillips, MP for Birmingham Yardley, employs her husband, Tom Phillips, as a constituency support manager.

    James Morris, MP for Halesowen and Rowley Regis, also employed his wife, Anna Mellitt, as a communications officer until October 2016.

    Campaigners say there needs to be a clear end date for all MPs.

    Det Sgt Andy Padmore wants to trace family members of six Wolverhampton officers ahead of travelling to Belgian battlefields in September.

    A wooden barn at the park on Bristol Road South has been totally destroyed in the suspected arson attack.

    The number of dedicated traffic police officers has fallen by nearly a third over 10 years, an investigation by the Press Association has revealed.

    The West Midlands had the most cuts outside of London, with numbers falling by 52% from 384 in 2007 to 186 today.

    Experts have questioned how new laws, such as the ban on using mobiles while driving, can be enforced with 30% fewer officers dedicated to policing roads.

    A 28-year-old man was taken to hospital with head and hand injuries. He is in a serious but stable condition, said police who were called to the scene at about 02:30.

    Another man, aged 39, took himself to hospital after being stabbed in the arm. His injury is not thought to be serious.

    An area of Berkley Street has been cordoned off as police carry out an investigation.

    Commuters in the West Midlands using the M5 say they're facing nightmare journeys as work to improve the motorway begins.

    It's a waterproofing programme on one side of the Oldbury viaduct - between junctions one for West Bromwich and two for Oldbury.

    The work is set to be carried out over the next two years, with only two lanes operating in each direction, at a 30mph speed limit.

    A petition calling for Birmingham City Council to refund residents for missed bin collections has received nearly 2,000 signatures.

    Refuse workers are striking over restructuring plans

    Cllr Alex Yip started the petition calling on the council "to refund residents a proportion of their council tax for each missed household and recycle collection as a result of the collection strikes".

    Refuse workers have been striking since the end of June and stoppages were increased to three hours a day on Friday.

    A man is due to appear before magistrates this morning charged with the rape of a 14-year-old girl in Birmingham.

    Khurram Rahi, 27, from Smethwick, was arrested over the weekend by police investigating the attack at Witton station last Tuesday.

    The girl was raped a second time after she flagged down a car when she left the station. Police continue to search for the suspect.
