    West Midlands Ambulance Service said a sports car was in collision with another car and then hit a lamppost.

    Its 25-year-old driver, a spokesman said, hurt his nose but refused hospital treatment and was discharged at the scene.

    An unauthorised encampment in Solihull has been told by the council to leave the site by 17:00.

    Travellers have been at Bentley Heath Recreation Ground since last Thursday.

    The council believes some people are starting to leave but says it will involve the police if the park is not vacated by the deadline.

    The council is also working to remove another unauthorised encampment at Babbs Mill Local Nature Reserve.

    There are no trains from Birmingham New Street towards Sutton Coldfield and Lichfield due to overheard wire problems on the London Midland Cross City line, Network Rail says.

    The problems are between Gravelly Hill and Four Oaks stations.

    Replacement buses will be available for passengers at some of the stations along the route

    Trains leaving New Street for Lichfield are cancelled until at least 16:20.

    A peregrine falcon chick thought to have fallen from its nest when it first tried to fly has been nursed back to health.

    The bird was found at an industrial park in Coleshill, Warwickshire, near Birmingham, and cared for at The Falconry Centre in Hagley, Worcestershire - one of three the venue has been looking after this year.

    The chick is thought to have come from a family nest on a pylon.

    It has been released in the hope of a reunion with its parents.

    Estate agents in the West Midlands have told the BBC cheaper homes and increasing job opportunities in the West Midlands are proving to be a major incentive for families and investors to move to the region from London.

    Combined with declining house values in London and the impression that the West Midlands is on the up, you get a recipe for relocation.

    However some are warning that demand will outstrip supply, artificially increasing prices and pricing out local first time buyers.

    One of the bears from the Big Sleuth trail across Birmingham will have to be removed after being damaged.

    It had been displayed on Solihull High Street and will not feature again.

    The damage is believed to have been deliberate. Artist Antonio Roberts posted on Instagram, external that the bear had been cracked after it was knocked off its plinth.

    More than 100 bears have been placed around Birmingham as part of the public art project. They will later be auctioned to raise money for Birmingham Children's Hospital.

    The East Midlands' newest MEP has warned of a "fake Brexit" as he takes up his seat in the European Parliament.

    Jonathan Bullock has taken over as one of UKIP's two representatives for the region following Roger Helmer's retirement.

    Mr Bullock, who helped instigate a Conservative-UKIP pact in Kettering at the last general election, said: "They [Remain-supporting MPs] are trying to ignore the Brexit vote and slide straight into a ‘fake Brexit’, which really means no Brexit at all.

    "This has caused further uncertainty for business and both uncertainty and disillusionment in the country in general."

    Downing Street has insisted it is committed to leaving the European Union and "delivering" Brexit.

    A man who exposed and touched himself as indecent photos of girls were taken on trains has been jailed, police say.

    The photos were uploaded to a website and, according to British Transport Police (BTP), their source was traced, with officers then attending an address in Worcester from which a computer was seized.

    BTP said officers found footage of Paul Malcolm Owen, 41, of Stourbridge, touching himself while filming children.

    For the train-related offences - engaging in sexual activity in front of child; exposing himself in front of a child; and possession of indecent images of children - Owen was sentenced at Worcester Crown Court on Friday to a total of 16 months in prison.

    Four months' imprisonment for voyeurism - in which, police say, he filmed over the top of a changing room at swimming baths - will run concurrently.

    Steve McCabe MP has said the motorcyclists who threw a brick at his head last night are "really quite nasty, violent thugs" who are "terrorising neighbourhoods".

    "Somebody clearly knows who they are - the problem is that people are terrified of these thugs," said the Labour member for Selly Oak.

    He said that numerous complaints had been made about anti-social behaviour by bikers in the area, adding "it's a big issue in south Birmingham".

    West Midlands Police is investigating the incident which happened at about 18:30 on Monday on Greenford Road in Yardley Wood.

    Birmingham MP Steve McCabe had a brick thrown at his head in the street yesterday.

    He's tweeted photographs of those he said were responsible - two people on bikes who, the Labour member for Selly Oak alleged, had been doing wheelies in the road, prompting him to say he would call police.

    Mr McCabe told the Victoria Derbyshire programme that he had shouted "pack it in" at a pair on Monday evening.

    He said "they took off but they came back a few moments later. One of them got off the bike and confronted me, and while I was engaged with him the other one threw a rock or a brick at the side of my head with some force".

    West Midlands Police is investigating the incident on Greenford Road in Yardley Wood.

    The man they seek is a private tutor thought to be in his 30s and operating in the city.

  17. Pancreatic cancer surgery success more likely if fast-trackedpublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 1 August 2017

    Fast-track surgery for pancreatic cancer boosts its success rate by 22%, researchers found following a pilot scheme at University Hospitals Birmingham.

    Under the scheme, according to a new report in a medical journal, the average surgery time was cut from two months to just over two weeks, saving the NHS £3,200 per patient.

    Pancreatic Cancer UK, who funded the scheme, says a UK-wide roll out could see hundreds more patients having surgery which successfully removes their tumour.

    The savings to the NHS of £3,200 per patient were made by cutting out the treatment for the symptom of jaundice before surgery, as well as reducing complications and hospital readmissions after surgery.
