    Police officers in the West Midlands have some of the lowest levels of morale in the country, a survey suggests.

    A Police Federation poll shows 60% of the force feel pay, work-life balance and the treatment of police officers is affecting their job.

    The Home Office said policing offered competitive pay and a good pension.

    A family from Staffordshire is training for Parallel London, which takes place in the capital this Sunday., external

    It’s an event for families with a member who has a disability.

    They'll get to train and compete alongside each other at London's Olympic Park.

    Two-year-old Lyra Davis-Heggies, from Hednesford, has cerebral palsy and global developmental delay and doctors weren't sure if she'd ever be able to walk.

    The family are entering the 10km event this weekend.

    People living near the road where a Birmingham taxi driver was killed in a hit-and-run crash have called for action to stop speeding drivers.

    Father of four Mohammed Shezad died after being knocked down by a car while he was locking up his taxi in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Edgbaston.

    I've been speaking to people who knew him and they say he was very pleasant family man who loved cricket and had been a taxi driver for many years.

    Mr Shezad often parked his car on City Road, as he lived nearby.

    I'm told he was on a break at about 02:00 and had parked by the road when he was hit by another car.

    Residents say the 30mph speed limit is often not adhered to.

    Police continue to appeal for information about what happened.

    A fire broke out at HMP Featherstone during the disturbance last night at the jail.

    Staffordshire Police said it was alerted to prisoners "causing problems" at the Category C prison in Staffordshire and that it involved "a number" of inmates.

    Fire crews were alerted to reports of a blaze at about 19:00 and remained at the jail, which holds about 650 men, until almost midnight.

    No staff or prisoners were injured, the Ministry of Justice said.

    A 60-year-old man is starting a five-year prison sentence after being convicted of starting a fire at Birmingham's Wholesale Market two years ago.

    Stephen Wilkinson, who had worked at the market for more than 40 years, denied the charges throughout the trial and never gave an explanation why he did it, said police.

    The 60-year-old was convicted of setting fire to a pile of boxes, causing damage to the venue estimated at more than £500,000.

    Today, West Midlands Police has released footage of Wilkinson in the market starting the blaze in August 2015.

    Drayton Manor Theme Park says it will now allow Sikh visitors to wear ceremonial daggers.

    It follows an incident in June which saw a family refused entry after an adult declined to exchange his Kirpan, worn as a symbol of his faith, for a replacement necklace.

    A friend had said the family from Coventry was celebrating their son's sixth birthday and had spent hundreds of pounds on tickets.

    Now, the theme park near Tamworth says, after discussions with the Sikh Council, it will allow Sikhs to enter wearing them as long as they meet health and safety guidelines.

    Those include that the dagger isn't longer than six inches and it should be worn out of sight and securely.

    More bus lane cameras will be going live across Birmingham next week.

    • A38 Lichfield Road
    • Tyburn Road
    • Pershore Road

    Road markings and signs will be clear for drivers, says the council, which will "keep the city moving".

    Any revenue raised from fines will be put back into paying for transport projects in the city.

    Earlier this year St Martin's Queensway, in the city, was was the fifth most lucrative bus lane camera in England, raising an estimated £2,500 a day for the council.

    Mobile cameras will also be placed in Broad Street, Hagley Road West, Birchfield Road and Coventry Road between September and October.

    A man attempted to abduct a teenage girl at a nature reserve in Redditch, police say.

    It happened on Monday night. West Mercia Police said, external a man on a bike passed the girl a couple of times at Ipsley Alders Marsh nature reserve before approaching her with a large hair band.

    The victim was able to escape after shouting for help.

    Officers are appealing to witnesses and describe the man as aged between 40 and 50. He initially had his head uncovered but was later seen wearing a black balaclava.
