    Western Power Distribution says it's had 99,500 homes and firms cut off with 59,700 in this region.

    The firm says the most affected areas in the West Midlands included those around Worcester, Hereford and Ludlow.

    On Sunday, the West Midlands said goodbye to train operator London Midland after 10 years at the helm of the regional franchise.

    You might remember last week that the company gave away free farewell cake - though the date printed on the box was wrong - saying April 2017.

    Well today bags and free biscuits were being given away at Birmingham New Street to say "hey - we're your new train operator".... Except this time the takeover includes green Japanese chocolate - we only discovered why after much searching on the internet.

    The company says, external "It is a Dutch/Japanese consortium so there is Japanese and Dutch treats". Hence the stroopwafel (aka waffle), also in the bag.

    It's the same team working for West Midlands Railway, external, from drivers to staff. Not all of the trains have been re-branded yet but there's one at Snow Hill this morning in Birmingham for the official launch.

    Motorists are being urged to drive carefully in Staffordshire this morning after a series of crashes on some of the area's main routes.

    Staffordshire Police says there have been six reported collisions this morning in the north of the county with three on the A50 involving a total of eight vehicles.

    The force says there have also been ones on the A34 near to Trentham Monkey Forest, one on the A53 at Norton-le-Moors and one on the A500 southbound at the A34 Talke roundabout.

    Officers say there haven't been any serious injuries.

    Services at Coventry City Council aren't affected as they weren't scheduled to collect rubbish today.

    Warwick District Council has suspended recycling services, external, but general household bins should be put out as normal.

    We've seen snow get as deep as 8cm in Worcester city centre over the past 24 hours though it's been much deeper in rural areas and other places including Staffordshire and Shropshire.

    Hundreds and hundreds of schools are closed across the region. It may be good news for them, but with temperatures unlikely to rise above 0C it's likely conditions won't change, making it tricky for people to get around.

    Public transport is running but as ever, we're warned to check before we travel.

    A gritter overturned in Staffordshire over the weekend due to the treacherous conditions on a rural road.

    The county council confirmed it happened early on Sunday morning on Tamworth Road, in Elford, near Tamworth.

    The local authority says the gritter was driving on an untreated road and overturned because of the very icy conditions.

    The two people inside weren't hurt.

    The minor injuries unit (MIU) in Ludlow's shut today, external because of "staffing challenges", Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust says.

    However it says the MIU in Oswestry is still open, despite some reports that it was shut.
