    Police are asking for mobile phone photos and videos of a mass brawl in the centre of Shrewsbury before Christmas.

    Two men, one in his 40s, the other in his 50s, needed hospital treatment for facial injuries after the fight which involved about 20 people on Castle Gates on 23 December.

    Two Shrewsbury men, aged 25 and 27, were arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm. They have been released while investigations continue.

    Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell says midfielder Charlie Kirk can learn a "life lesson" from his recent performances.

    He scored as they beat Chesterfield 2-0 yesterday, lifting the club six points clear of the relegation places.

    Over the last three days, firefighters in Shropshire have had to rescue a 12-year-old boy with his arm stuck in a chair, an 18-month-old locked in a car and a three-year-old girl with her leg trapped in a bed frame.

    They said the incidents in Much Wenlock, Bridgnorth and Shifnal, showed they weren't just there for fires.

    Reports of an illegal Boxing Day fox hunt in Cheshire are being investigated by police.

    Wildlife campaigners Cheshire Against The Cull posted photographs of a fox that had allegedly been killed by a hunt in Allostock near Knutsford.

    Cheshire Police said detectives and wildlife officers are investigating an alleged breach of the Hunting Act which bans the hunting of wild mammals with dogs in England and Wales.

    They're appealing for anyone with information, or video footage of the hunt, to come forward.

    Police want to find out what caused a fatal crash on the outskirts of Rugby on Christmas Eve.

    A white Ford Transit van left the road and hit a tree on Lower Hillmorton Road, close to the Jolly Abbot pub shortly before midday.

    The driver - a man in his 50s - was cut free from the vehicle, but pronounced dead at the scene.

    A man believed to be the UK's first black headmaster should be celebrated 50 years after he was appointed, an historian says.

    Tony O'Connor, who came to England from Jamaica after serving with the RAF in the Second World War, was appointed head of Bearwood Primary School in Smethwick in 1967 and stayed for 16 years.

    Mr O'Connor "did much to improve race relations in the area", according to local historian David Hallam, who has launched a campaign to celebrate and commemorate his life.

    It was a time of racial tensions in Smethwick. Malcolm X visited the area in 1965 after Conservative MP Peter Griffiths had won the constituency using a racist slogan.

    Mr Hallam hopes to make contact with Mr O'Connor's family, colleagues and former pupils.

    A two-year-old girl and a nine-month-old baby have gone missing from Walsall, police say.

    It's thought Leyla and Romina Kasperowitch are with their grandmother, Genowefa Kacperowicz (pictured below).

    They went missing from their home on 21 December and West Midlands Police says they might be taken to Poland.

  9. Power outage updatepublished at 17:00 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2017

    Western Power Distribution (WPD) was this morning dealing with 200 weather-related faults and 13,000 customers without power across the Midlands region.

    That figure now stands at fewer than 1,000 customers in the East Midlands which, on WPD's system, includes Warwickshire, where 86 customers are still affected.

    "In the West Midlands we have 1,756 customers off supply due to the weather," a spokesperson said.

    Worcestershire is among the worst-affected areas, with 265 customers without supply.

    Power for those who lost it over night should be restored by 18:00, WPD says.

    Engineers, it adds, are on emergency standby in case there are more incidents tonight, while helicopters have been locating faults.

    A spokesperson said: "We would urge the public that if they see a cable on the ground, not to approach it."

    A 29-year-old man convicted of robbery and theft has absconded from HMP Sudbury in Derbyshire.

    Navarone Dominic McIntosh was sentenced to four years in prison at Birmingham Crown Court in February 2016.

    McIntosh has family in Birmingham and the West Midlands.

    Police have asked anyone with information about McIntosh's whereabouts to contact them.

    West Brom say they'll pay tribute to long-serving employee Richard Eaves at their match against Arsenal on New Year's Eve.

    He worked for the club for almost 30 years after joining the ground staff as a 14-year-old.

    The club said he'd been the man who wore several mascot costumes over the years and also worked as a coach, leading the supporters team, Boing FC.

    A statement said "he amassed many friends at The Hawthorns, all of whom were shocked and deeply saddened by his untimely death", adding the thoughts of everyone at West Bromwich Albion were with his partner and two young children.

    Part of Broad Street in Birmingham has been closed by police "for public safety" after snow and ice fell off a large crane.

    Buses running along the road are being diverted towards the city centre.

    The Environment Agency has issued another two flood warnings for low-lying areas.

    They both pertain to the River Avon in south Worcestershire following heavy rain and overnight snow.

    The river is expected to carry on rising until Thursday morning, reaching a peak of 2.7m in Evesham.

    Solihull Barons have been docked two points and given a £500 suspended fine after they refused to complete their game against Telford Tigers on 23 December.

    The game was abandoned when the Barons netminder was sent off just after the halfway mark and they decided they didn't want to continue playing.

    The NIHL said it "cannot have a situation where a substantial number of paying spectators have to be told the game is finishing early because one of the teams has refused to continue."

    Cash was delivered to homes on Linden Close as the clock struck midnight on Christmas Eve.
