    An elderly man who was spotted living on a street in Birmingham has been given temporary accommodation, a community group says, after thousands shared his story on Facebook, external.

    A post yesterday on the Birmingham homeless support team page said it was "heartbreaking" after a woman posted about the man, thought to be in his 70s, on the High Street, Erdington.

    That update was shared more than 10,000 times on Facebook but 10 hours later the community team posted, external to say he was now "in temporary accommodation and off the streets".

    Nature experts are warning the number of water voles in the wild has fallen dramatically., external

    Research from the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust has revealed a 30% decline in areas where the river mammals once thrived.

    It's blaming it on water pollution and habitat loss.

    The trust says it is now working on improving river and canal banks to provide more nesting and feeding opportunities.

    Arriva Trains Wales says it is arranging for buses to take passengers from Hereford to south Wales and Birmingham.

    It has suspended the majority of its "long distance" service today, affecting services travelling through Hereford, Shrewsbury and Crewe.

    The company said it was to allow "urgent safety checks" to be carried out, but there was a limited train service still running between Shrewsbury and Crewe.

    It couldn't say how long the disruption would last.

    West Midlands Railway and Virgin Trains services aren't reporting problems this morning.

    Coventry City Council is planning to spend £120m improving the city centre.

    The plans include improvements to Upper Precinct and changes to the area outside the new water park and leisure centre in New Union Street and Greyfriars Lane.

    A group of 120 pensioners are travelling to Westminster today as part of a campaign aimed at trying to save NHS community services in Staffordshire.

    They plan to hand in two petitions calling for beds at Bradwell Hospital to be reopened and for the future of Leek Moorlands Hospital to be secured.

    They'll also be meeting all seven north Staffordshire MPs and have invited NHS England and the health minister to join the meeting.

    The clinical commissioning groups for Stoke-on-Trent and north Staffordshire say they're listening to people's views, adding no decisions have been made on the future of any hospital or beds.

    A charity supporting domestic violence victims has collapsed amid a probe into alleged financial irregularities.

    Trustees of Birmingham-based Amirah Foundation began an internal review when a whistleblower spotted "unusual transactions" last November.

    Chief executive Shaz Manir (pictured) was suspended and trustee Nurjahan Khatun criticised. They have not commented.

    The charity contacted police then become insolvent earlier this year as it was unable to secure future funding.

    The county council says the impact of gritting may be slower due to the sub-zero weather and warn of hazardous conditions on some county routes.

    It says it's been the "coldest night of the winter so far".

    What do you do when your football match looks like it could be abandoned in heavy snow? Pick up a broom and start sweeping.

    That's what the players in last night's match between Peterborough and Walsall had to do when play was stopped with 10 minutes of the game still to play.

    Fans were quick to praise, external Peterborough's staff and volunteers for getting the game finished as they cleared the lines to allow the match to finish.

    After the match, the home side quipped some of the players could have put themselves 'forward for the curling event, external' at future Winter Olympics.

    Parts of Staffordshire could get more heavy snow showers today as a yellow weather warning's still in place from the Met Office., external

    The organisation's alert lasts until 23:55 tonight and it says some rural areas could even become cut off.

    The Met Office has also issued an amber weather warning from Thursday afternoon into Friday for more snow for large parts of the West Midlands.

    In last night's football, Walsall lost 2-1 to Peterborough in League One at a snowy London Road.

    The game was delayed deep in the second half while ground staff and players grabbed their shovels to clear the snow away and make the pitch lines more visible.
