    There's major disruption today to Arriva Trains Wales services between Manchester and south Wales.

    National Rail Enquiries says there's a shortage of trains due to extra safety inspections., external

    That means Arriva Trains Wales services from Manchester, through Cheshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire and into south Wales, are suspended.

    It currently expects disruption to last until at least 12:00 but adds there's no firm estimate of how long it'll last and advises passengers to use tickets on other operators.

    A man's been arrested following reports of someone in a ski mask walking through Newcastle armed with a kitchen knife.

    Police say a 26-year-old suspect from Stoke-on-Trent was detained on King Street after a number of calls this afternoon about the town's High Street.

    Nobody was hurt and the "knife", police said, turned out to be a spiked garden stake.

  12. Ambulance blocked in by cars frustrates paramedicpublished at 18:43 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

    A paramedic in Birmingham was shocked to return to his ambulance this morning to find he'd been blocked in by parked cars.

    Simon Wong said he'd been sent to Small Heath to take a man with a "medical emergency" to hospital, but was unable to get the stretcher on and off.

    He called it "inconsiderate parking" and pointed out he'd left the ambulance on double yellow lines with a warning light flashing on the rear.

  13. Family escapes house after kitchen firepublished at 18:30 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2018

    A family with four children escaped their home in Highley, Shropshire, this morning when the kitchen caught fire in the early hours.

    Firefighters were called to the property on Hazelwells Road at 02:44.

    Smoke alarms woke up the occupants and allowed them to get out in time.

    Speed cameras could return to Coventry for the first time in five years.

    They were switched off in 2013 to save money, but now Coventry City Council is considering spending £120,000 to re-install them.
