    An ambulance was "rocked around" and vandalised in Telford earlier today while staff were inside treating a patient.

    A man punched and kicked the sides of the vehicle, breaking a wing-mirror in the early hours of this morning on the Woodside estate.

    They kept cool - they looked after the patient while the ambulance was being rocked around by the male attacking it outside. Gill Hughes the paramedic was able to jump in the drivers seat and drive the patient to hospital, even under that stress."

    Staffordshire’s police and fire services are set to be governed by the same person from 1 June.

    Conservative police and crime commissioner (PCC) Matthew Ellis will oversee both, claiming it will save £36m over 10 years.

    The move was opposed by Stoke-on-Trent City (Independent & Con) and Staffordshire County Councils (Con), as well as the soon to be abolished Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Authority.

    Tickets for the event will be available from 10:00 tomorrow from this site, external, and limited to four per person.

    Former Wolves goalkeeper Matt Murray will host the event, with other guest appearances throughout the day.

    As well as the party in the park, there will be an open top bus parade through the city centre after Wolves squad and management make their way from a private civic reception to the park.

    The mum of a four-year-old boy with a rare form of dementia has described finding out about his condition as "news you never want to hear".

    George Young, from Kenilworth in Warwickshire, has Batten disease.

    He can no longer walk or speak, and the condition can lead to blindness.

  9. Hospital plans £4m investment packagepublished at 16:42 British Summer Time 30 April 2018

    A new CT scanner is to be installed at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Gobowen as part of a £4m investment project.

    It will replace an older model that the hospital says has come to the end of its useful life.

    Over the next 12 months the hospital also plans to increase the number of beds as part of an upgrade to the Kenyon Ward.

    The plans are to be funded thanks to a £500,000 operating surplus and money from the NHS Improvement programme.

    Including the central NHS funding, the hospital says it is set to report a surplus of £2.3m in its annual accounts next month.

    The singer Gabrielle has joined the line-up for Coventry's Godiva Festival, performing songs from her first album in 11 years.

    A proposal to open another off-licence in Erdington has been withdrawn.

    The application for a One Stop Mini Mart at the Six Ways end of the High Street had sparked concerns due to the town’s historic problems with street drinkers and anti-social behaviour.

    West Midlands Police and Erdington’s three ward councillors all opposed the new shop which would have served alcohol up to 23:00 seven days a week.

    A Birmingham City Council sub licensing committee was due to rule on the licence bid tomorrow but a notification by the council confirmed the application has now been withdrawn.

    Sajid Javid has been named as the new home secretary, in charge of the UK's immigration, security and counter-terrorism efforts. It has been a quite a rise.

    The 48-year-old father of four has got his place in one of the key offices of state as part of the fallout from the Windrush revelations, and it will be his job to sort it out now.

    The MP for Bromsgrove since 2010 was born in Rochdale, one of five sons of parents who had moved to the UK from Pakistan.

    And his younger brother works for West Midlands Police.

    Football fans from the West Midlands and as far away as Spain have come to the aid of the families campaigning for justice over the Birmingham pub bombings.

    More than £20,000 has been raised in the last few weeks towards the group's legal costs as it attempts to fight for bomb suspects to be named during the latest inquests.

    Money has even come in from auctions, including that of a handmade guitar signed by the likes of Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood.

    The Justice 4 the 21 group said it was a "disgrace" that they still have no legal aid to attend the latest hearings.

    A couple from Worcester are getting used to life with their new baby boy - though surprisingly the mum only found out she was pregnant six hours before giving birth.

    Nevertheless Laura Page gave birth to 8lb and 13 oz Jacob Alfred on 23 April, the same day as Prince Louis.

    Laura and partner Scott say they in "complete surprise and shock".

    Laura had been receiving a contraception injection and had not suffered cravings or morning sickness.

    Even when she went into labour she ascribed the pain to another health problem.

  17. 'Technical issues' continue to dog delayed stationpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 30 April 2018

    Despite Kenilworth station opening today "regrettably" there are still a few technical issues regarding tickets and information, station operator West Midlands Railways said.

    "Hopefully these will be resolved soon," the firm said.

    Residents had originally been told the station would open in 2016.

    Richard Dickson, of Friends of Kenilworth Station, said his excitement at the opening was muted as residents had waited so long.
