    A kitten has been rescued after being stuck in a car engine.

    The RSPCA were called after a passerby heard "frantic meowing" under the bonnet of a Ford Focus, parked on High Street, Stafford.

    The owner had returned by the time the charity's inspector arrived, popped the bonnet and revealed the kitty.

    Nicknamed Dave, the RSPCA say they think the lucky moggy is feral and he was checked over by a vet.

    The Pears' captain Joe Leach was earlier this week ruled out for the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his back.

    Ferguson (pictured) was today confirmed as stand-in skipper today , externalby Worcestershire's head coach Kevin Sharp.

    The 33-year-old's been in fine One-Day Cup form for the side, having hit totals of 159 and 192 in games this season.

    Seven ducklings which were stuck down a drain, external have been rescued by fire crews.

    They were called by a passerby who'd spotted them this morning on Weddell Wynd, Bilston.

    After being safely rescued and with no sign of their mother around, the fire service says they were left with the passerby for the RSPCA to then collect them.

    Controversial plans to build shops on a car park have been approved by a government planning inspector.

    Locals had said the development on the Old Smithfield land in Bridgnorth would stop people shopping locally and take trade away from the High Street.

    Bridgnorth’s Chamber of Commerce had opposed the scheme, external, raising concerns that the town would be "left with a permanent lack of parking".

    But, after the application was called in by the government, the inspector recommended giving it planning approval, saying the shops would bring employment to the town.

    It's hard to imagine at the moment but this site will become the athlete's village for the Commonwealth Games 2022.

    The Games Village development in the Perry Barr area of Birmingham will include about 1,000 homes, dining areas, transport and services.

    After the games, the accommodation - a mix of apartments and town houses - is due to be converted to homes for sale and rent, including social and affordable housing.

    They arrived at around 10:00 after Whites of Coventry, in Ryton-on-Dunsmore, said a pile of scrap metal had caught fire.

    Huge plumes of black smoke have been seen for many miles around the site and 70 firefighters are at the scene.

    The blaze was confirmed as having started just before 10:00 and Warwickshire Police are repeating their message for local residents to keep doors and windows shut. , external

    Traders and their local MP are going to hold talks this weekend with their police and crime commissioner (PCC) over vandalism in their town.

    Owners of several firms in Redditch have told BBC Hereford and Worcester that there have been a series of recent attacks on shops where windows have been broken and doors kicked in.

    They want more police patrols and will join local MP Rachel Maclean tomorrow when she meets West Mercia Police's PCC John Campion, urging action.

    BBC Hereford and Worcester's asked West Mercia Police for a comment on the vandalism but, so far, they've yet to respond.
