    A crowd of about 140,000 people marked the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting, at an Eid celebration, organisers said.

    The record-breaking crowd gathered for morning prayers at Small Heath Park before enjoying fairground rides, food and drink.

    Organisers Green Lane Masjid and Community Centre said they were "overwhelmed" so many people travelled to the city for the celebrations.

    Over 200 people have volunteered to help clean the park after the celebrations, it said.

    The Department for Transport's given Shropshire Council the cash for work on the A529 between Hinstock and Audlem.

    The authority says they're developing the specific plans now for what will be done but they'll also include better road markings and signs., external

    It adds that work will start before the end of March 2019, so it happens within the financial year.

    Egypt's Wolverhampton-born midfielder Sam Morsy has a secret love of oatcakes.

    He discovered them while playing for Port Vale as a teenager, when staying at the home of BBC Radio Stoke presenter Paula White - she said he could "eat for Britain" and would put away 10 at a time.

    Paula also said it was "obviously his first time away from home" and that he managed to flood her house twice while he was staying with her.

    Morsy went to school in Telford where his PE teacher described him as a "tenacious bulldog".

    Eight fire engines and a water bowser have been sent to the scene of a scrap fire near Coventry.

    Metal recycling company, Whites of Coventry, in Ryton-on-Dunsmore said a pile of scrap metal caught fire shortly before 10:00.

    Police are at the scene directing traffic away from the site.

    An eight-year-old boy's death has been described as a "truly horrific accident" after a fire was started in his house by lit tea lights.

    Lucas Carter died on 30 October 2016 at his home in Sandbach, Cheshire.

    His mother Kelly-Anne Carter, 35, ended her life a few weeks later after she “could not go on without him”.

    An inquest into Lucas' death today heard his mum lit the candles in the living room after he'd gone to bed and then fell asleep.

    Cheshire coroner Claire Welch said it was a "truly horrific accident" as she recorded a verdict of accidental death.

    A cyclist suffered serious injuries in a crash with a car in Dudley.

    The incident took place at about 07:40 on Wednesday at the Weetslade Road roundabout.

    The male cyclist was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries and the driver of the BMW was unhurt.

    The people at Visit Tamworth are trying to start a Twitter-craze by asking people to copy the pose of the new Aethelflaed statue in the town.

    And they've been using the #DoTheAethel hashtag to share their photos.

    Among those to have a go are the cast of the BBC drama The Last Kingdom, which is set at the time of the Anglo-Saxon leader.

    US broadcaster Fox has apologised to viewers for the offensive gesture Stoke-on-Trent singer Robbie Williams gave during his World Cup opening ceremony performance.

    "As it was broadcast live, we did not know what would happen during [the] performance and we apologise," the network told the Hollywood Reporter, external.

    Neither the former Take That star nor his representatives have offered an explanation for the gesture.

    The incident was not seen by UK viewers but has been widely circulated online.

    ITV had already cut away from the opening ceremony when Port Vale fan Williams "flipped the bird" while singing his 2000 track Rock DJ.
