    A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following an assault in Willenhall which lead to the death of a 31-year-old man.

    West Midlands Police said they were called to a fight outside The Malthouse on New Road, Walsall just after midnight on Monday.

    A bystander was found with severe head injuries and he died later that day.

    A 27-year old man presented himself at a police station last night and was arrested on suspicion of murder, the force said.

    Rail lines have reopened between Gobowen and Chirk following an incident earlier.

    As services return to normal, those between Shrewsbury and Wrexham General will be delayed by up to 15 minutes or revised, the National Rail website reports, external.

    There's also delays following a fault on a train at Jewellery Quarter.

    Services are returning to normal but some between Birmingham Snow Hill and Stourbridge Junction will be delayed by up to 20 minutes or cancelled.

    Police are urging people to behave themselves, after seeing a huge spike in 999 calls during and after the last game.

    And West Midlands Ambulance Service tweeted to advise people "not to do anything stupid that you wouldn't do normally".

    There are a lot of stories about people waving English flags today, but the flag has a different significance for Shropshire Council.

    The authority is flying it at half-mast, to "pay tribute to the victims of the Srebrenica genocide".

    In July 1995, Bosnian Serb forces killed more than 8,000 Bosnian Muslims, while they were meant to be under UN protection.

    The council says it will also hold a minutes silence at its meeting on 26 July.

  9. Three Lions video a follow-up to Youtube hitpublished at 11:34 British Summer Time 11 July 2018

    The first musical video, external produced by the Wouldn't Change a Thing group for parents of Downs Syndrome children got over four million views on Youtube.

    It featured families singing to Christina Perri's A Thousand Years, while using Makaton, a form of sign language and was praised by James Corden and Jamie McCallum among others.

    The group has now followed it up with a version of the Three Lions song.

    One of the mums, Rebecca Carless from Coventry, said their online community "includes children of all ages, adults with Down's Syndrome and also expectant mothers who have had a recent diagnosis".

    And she said the support was important because people could feel "like their world had ended" after this diagnosis or with a new baby, but the group showed children with Down's Syndrome were "just normal kids" and valued, loved members of their families.

    Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell says the launch of the clubs new official fans association is "a great thing", but he "can't believe they didn't have one".

    The Railwayman was launched last night, after the club spent four years without an official fans association.

    An open meeting will be held at the Duke of Gloucester in Crewe next Wednesday for supporters wishing to be involved and Artell said he would be happy to talk to the group, adding "a club our size does need to have one".

    David Baddiel tweeted, external to say a version of his Three Lions song, external, sung by families affected by Downs Syndrome "is the first version straightforwardly to make me cry".

    It's the second video made by the group of families, which includes Rebecca Carless from Coventry, who said they wanted to do something "a bit more fun" as well as show support for the football team.

    In the video, children with Down's Syndrome, their parents and siblings are shown doing Makaton, a form of sign language, to the lyrics.

    Mrs Carless said the Wouldn't Change A Thing group aimed to show children with Down's Syndrome were "just normal kids" and valued, loved members of their families.

  14. Mother brings cannabis oil through border legallypublished at 10:41 British Summer Time 11 July 2018

    Hannah Deacon, the mother of six-year-old Alfie Dingley has legally brought medicinal cannabis oil through the UK border after being given a special licence by the government.

    Alfie, from Kenilworth, has a very rare form of illness which can up to 150 seizures a month.

    "Today, for the first time ever in this country we have brought back THC oil through the airport legally, which is amazing," his mother said.

    She was allowed through London City Airport with the oil from Amsterdam.

    Alfie's family previously said his condition improved after using the oil in the Netherlands - where it is legal - and had given a petition to Prime Minister Theresa May.

    Police are searching for a 35-year-old man in water at Sandwell Valley.

    A spokesman said they received a call from a member of the public describing a group of men shouting for help just after 18:00 yesterday.

    Emergency services are currently at the scene at Swan Pool and underwater searches are starting.

    There are calls for a big screen to be put up in Birmingham for the World Cup.

    A fan zone was in Birmingham's Millennium Point in the 2006 World Cup, with similar set-ups in Manchester and Liverpool, but nothing is in place for tonight's game.

    Broad Street Manager Mike Olley said it would be a great idea: "It gives that option to go along with family and friends and sit there and watch what is going to be a great spectacle".

    Birmingham City Council say pubs and venues are doing a really good job at putting on places to watch the football but they are in talks about a big screen for the final if England make it.

  17. Worcester lottery plans given go aheadpublished at 09:55 British Summer Time 11 July 2018

    Plans for Worcester to have its own lottery, with a top prize of £25,000, have been backed.

    The new weekly lottery, which will cost £1 to play, has been unanimously approved by the council in principle and could be launched later this year.

    The council says 60p from the cost of each ticket will go towards supporting charities and other causes in the city, with the rest going on admin costs and the prize fund.

    A Crewe school, which specialises in educating children with learning needs, is going to be expanded at a cost of £1m.

    Cheshire East Council says it means the number of pupils at Springfield School will rise from 132 to 156.
