Trade unionists call for hospital chief to be sackedpublished at 16:20 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2018
Trade union leaders, including two representing NHS staff, have written to Shropshire's five MPs calling for the chief executive of the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust to be sacked.
The 15 trade unionists say they are "appalled" at plans to close Telford's accident and emergency department overnight, because of staff shortages and claim it "puts the lives of our members and your constituents and their families at risk".
The unions represented in the letter include PCS, Unison, Unite and the NUT and it's also signed by the president of the Shrewsbury and Telford Trades Union Council, Andy Brown.
It's not the first time Simon Wright has faced calls to quit in recent months, following a critical CQC review, concerns over plans to reorganise the two hospitals and the A&E staffing shortages, but he has said he is committed to the job.
