    Rachel Griffin, chief executive of the trust, which was set up by Miss Lamplugh's parents, said "first and foremost our thoughts are with Suzy's remaining family, who must be very anxious today".

    What we would really like, she said, is to see some kind of resolution of Suzy's case.

    Police are searching outside the house which used to be owned by the mother of John Cannan, prime suspect for Miss Lamplugh's murder.

    Another application is being made to move a Coventry landmark to make room for the city's growing "restaurant quarter".

    The Coventry Cross on Cuckoo Lane was erected in 1976 and is a replica of the original medieval monument.

    The landmark is also reportedly over the burial place of Mary Bell, thought to be the last person to be publicly hanged in the city.

    A petition to "save the Coventry Cross" has attracted 780 signatures, but the council's member for jobs and regeneration, Jim O'Boyle, said there was £150,000 set aside to carry out the work.

    "Having successful restaurants on the cathedral side of the building will help to bring more life and vitality to this area," he said.

    The council would look at whether it might be possible to incorporate parts of the original cross, which are housed at the Herbert Art Gallery, in the relocated monument, he said.

    Homeowner Phillip Carey said he purchased the home in 1992 from Sheila Cannan, mother of John Cannan, named as the prime suspect in the murder case.

    He told the BBC police arrived on Monday and were investigating a garage behind the semi-detached home, which he used to store DIY items and an old fridge.

    The iron structure had been dismantled and police were particularly interested in what was underneath its concrete floor, Mr Carey said.

    The "very unusual" step to name John Cannan as the prime suspect in the murder case of Suzy Lamplugh was taken by police in 2002, after a review of the initial evidence,a former senior police officer said.

    Jim Dickie, who led a re-investigation of the case from 2000 to 2006, said although Cannan was "firmly in the frame" there was still insufficient evidence to charge him.

    The Crown Prosecution Service felt Cannan had been tried by media and wouldn't get a fair trial, he said, and officers in the original investigation had failed to act on information known to them at the time.

    "We looked at him and all the other suspects, and eliminated all the other suspects and John Cannan was firmly in the frame for Suzy's abduction and murder and he remains in the frame to this day".

    Cannan, 64, jailed for life in 1989 for the murder of Shirley Banks, has denied the allegations.

    A charity shop in Stone is appealing for donations after it was broken into twice over the weekend.

    A 30-year-old woman from Stoke-on-Trent has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was stabbed in the chest.

    It happened on Nicholls Street in Stoke yesterday just before 16:30.

    A former senior police officer, who led the re-investigation into Suzy Lamplugh's disappearance between 2000 and 2006, said they had previously questioned the mother of the prime suspect, John Cannan.

    Cannan's mother reportedly once owned the Sutton Coldfield property which is currently being searched, according to The Sun, external.

    Jim Dickie, formerly from the Metropolitan Police, said an extensive search had not been carried out at the property because there had been no evidence or intelligence that Suzy's body was there.

    He said the property might have been searched during the initial investigation in 1986 "if it was done at all".

    There may be some new evidence now, he said, that leads the police to believe a body may be in the garden or on the premises somewhere.

    The Suzy Lamplugh Trust said the thoughts of everyone are with Suzy’s family today.

    "Today’s news reminds us once again of the continuing tragedy of Suzy’s story and the importance of employers taking responsibility for the personal safety of their staff," a statement said.

    Miss Lamplugh, an estate agent, disappeared in 1986 after taking a client known as Mr Kipper to look around properties in Fulham.

    "Diana and Paul Lamplugh founded Suzy Lamplugh Trust in 1986 following the disappearance and later presumed murder of their daughter," the statement said.

    "Today we continue the work of Paul and Diana to reduce violence and aggression in society, supporting workplaces to help their lone and frontline workers be safer and feel safer."

    The trust spoke as police search a house in Sutton Coldfied in connection with the disappearance.

    Phillip Carey, who's lived at the Sutton Coldfield home for 26 years, said it's a fact the house is associated with Miss Lamplugh's story.

    "It's a possibility - maybe an outside possibility, but there is always a possibility".

    There's been no digging at the property just investigation work, he said.

    "We knew the back-story from many years ago and it's coming to an end of an investigation - if it ends the story so be it from our point of view and we're removed from the process, but if it puts someone at rest - that's another good ending to this story".

    Jim Dickie, a former detective who worked on the investigation into Miss Lamplugh's disappearance, said the house had not been searched previously.

    Officers have stressed the current occupants were in no way connected to the investigation.

    A tree in Priory Park has been hung with messages encouraging dog owners to pick up the mess they leave behind as part of an anti dog-fouling campaign.

    Police officers are searching a property in Sutton Coldfield in connection with missing estate agent Suzy Lamplugh.

    Police have refused to comment on "speculation surrounding the search", after The Sun reported the property, external used to be owned by the mother of prime suspect John Cannan.

    Convicted killer Cannan was jailed for life in 1989 for the rape and murder of Bristol newlywed Shirley Banks.

    The workplace safety charity has successfully campaigned for private hire vehicle licensing in London, bringing about the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 and setting up the National Stalking Helpline.

    In 2016, Miss Lamplugh's father, Paul, said he had little hope left of finding out what happened to her.

    Fire crews tackling a large fire at a Staffordshire airfield say it's now under control and efforts are being scaled-down.

    About 30 firefighters were called to the Hixon Airfield Industrial Estate in Stafford overnight, involving a garage unit.

    Crews worked hard to protect surrounding buildings, said Staffordshire Fire Service.

    A burst water main has closed the B4217 Church Road close to Edgbaston golf club in Birmingham.

    Nearby Edgbaston Park Road and the A38 Bristol Road were both closed for a time last night, outside the University of Birmingham, but have both re-opened.

    Severn Trent apologised to customers in the area affected by water loss.
